The unveiling

This was Spring of 2007. Started way too many plants indoors & ran out of room. The swing greenhouse was in operation from April 10 to mid-May. Heated it with a little round propane tentheater. Held down the plastic with landscape ties.

Hi Betty, Thanks for the welcome. It looks like you are into tole painting. I'd like to see your floor mat when it's finished. I'm an artist too, painting in acrylics mostly birds and wildlife in detail. I come from Ontario and know V. Harbour and have relatives living there by the name of Schnitzler. Would you show me some of your work? Here's a pic of a pheasant that I did not too long ago painted on stone tile. I don't know where this thread came from so I don't know what the topic was about but we'll talk again. ab-rosey

duhhh, Just found the previous thread Thanks ALL for your welcome. We were talking about the weather kinda. Well, here's how a Chinook happens---I went to the p.o. this am for my mail, it was calm when I walked in, sorted through some flyers, and went out. The wind was blowing//////. I got in my car and the wind blew the door closed on my leg. ouch!! I was in the p.o. for 5min.
Has anyone ever grown Eustoma?? I have some VERY tiny two leaf seedlings just sitting there and they aren't doing anything, namely growing. any ideas?
Do all delphiniums need cold treatment before sowing? My packages (4 different var.) don't indicate this, just 1 pkg.
I am the proud nana of new grandson, b.Feb. 2 and I'm off to a baby shower for him, then work. Have a wonderful day everyone.

ALBERTAROSEY - welcome. Give that new grandson a hug from all of us and show us a picture, please.

Hi to everyone else too. I've sort of been MIA. Worked a wonderful concert of the Toronto based Tafelmusik last night (here in Ottawa). If they every do their Galileo Project concert and you are close enough to go to it, do! I think they've just finished this tour of it though. Interesting, because they had ALL of the music memorized. That's very unusual for everyone in an orchestra to memorize all of it.

Have been working today on the Food Cupboard pictures again. We have them mostly captioned and now I'm putting them into an order before we give them all to the person who will do the Power Point presentation.

My Vancouver daughter sent new pics of Leila a couple of days ago. Enjoy.

ANN .. I still say Leila (I LOVE THAT NAME) looks so much like you .. what a beautiful child ..

Re the Food Cupboard .. I have noticed a great upsurge in advertising both in the local paper and other media sources with regards to donations as the organization is having to distribute more food than ever before .. so sad ..

AlbertaRosey .. what a fabulous job on the Pheasant !!! ALMOST as good as Robert Bateman :-)
You'll have to keep after Betty to show you pics of her painting marvels .. she's quite talented, and, as you will no doubt find out .. she is DEFINITELY related to the ENERGIZER BUNNY !! LoL
Congrats on the birth of your grandson .. hope you enjoyed the shower ^_^

Have walked Lilly several times today .. the weather is astounding .. in the mid 40's F and blazing sun .. only small problem I had was wearing my winter clogs along the deer trail .. I got a wee bootful of snow with some 'raisins' in it !!
As you all know .. I can get into predicaments .. and this one was NO exception .. lets just say there's a few new holes in the snow .. I kept losing my balance while I held my clog to clear the snow (et al) out .. and Lilly kept pulling on the leash .. ahh well .. all organic !!

Ciao

Marilynne - we are mystified by the Food Cupboard. Demand in February was a couple hundred people less than a year ago. Go figure. I think we are still quite insulated from the effects of the recession here in Ottawa. But we are afraid it will hit us eventually. Our OWN program is doing well. Those in the centre of the city are likely harder hit and they need more support from the Ottawa Food Bank than we do because we work hard and successfully to cultivate a community "ownership" of our program which translates into very good support.

Found an interesting blog on the construction of a cello. You might find it interesting.

AB Rosey - I have to admit that I didn't really look at the pheasant the first time through, but I just did and I also think it's very good.

Just looked at Joanna's spring seedlings and Wow!

Are you up for another Leila picture? DD sent 10, but I won't bore you with all of them. Need to go check my bread which is rising in the pan.

Welcome ABrosey
Joanna Here is the address to the supplier for the heater www.thenextenergystore.com/catalog/item/3585961/4924993.htm

If I remember right I had to go and buy a heavy duty cord to run the power to my GH. It is a gentle heat and I found that nothing was dried out from it. I really liked the thermostat as it assisted with a constant temp and I didn't have to leave the heater on as it would do it's own thing if it was needed.

Snow here too and supposed to be winter again for a few days ( I mean REALLY winter).
Briar started yesterday. I like to watch curling on TV and they show a game from all 2 draws so lots of TV the next week! Dont know all the results but the 2 games I watched Alberta beat NB and Ontario beat NFLD.

Reminders of the week I got Fancy in 2002- Had just had my BC surgery and sent Bailey off to board so I would not have to walk him . The Worlds were here in Calgary and she and I spent the whole week cuddled in my lazy boy watching the curling! It was to darn cold to do anything else that week.
Out to shovel all that stuff soon.

Heater off, -10 outside & 26.5 in the greenhouse. The sun makes a huge difference. This is all new to me. Last year the greenhouse was assembled mid April and it was 1/2 the size. DH bought the bigger one in the fall & we got it assembled in Nov. Sorta jumped the gun with Mar 1 for start-up day.

Gotta luv 'passive solar heat' .. I sometimes sit in the living room with my laptop .. my back is towards a south facing picture window and I have oft times had to move because the heat was so intense ..

Don .. your .. WHEW! comment is too funny .. it's probably that there WITHOUT a greenhouse LoL

Lovely day here .. went and bought some 'bunny food' .. had to go to PetSmart as the Feed Farm only sells FIFTY pound bags of alfalfa/Timothy pellets .. I took them some chopped carrots this morning .. they are still sitting there!!
Bugs Bunny would be saying "Nah .. what's UP with that doc' !!

At present I have a disaster happening in my breadmaker .. but am STICKING to it (almost literally) .. I made a loaf of cranberry whole wheat bread .. recipe called for fresh cranberry .. but .. I had canned leftover .. set everythin up according to the directions .. the machine was churning away .. I was putting dishes away (10 minutes after the fact) .. and low and behold .. there was the KNEADING PADDLE .. horrors .. so .. I stopped the machine .. and proceeded to try and seat the dang thing .. once I did .. I continued .. put it back to GO .. and was figgrin it's going to be a titch on the messed up side .. THEN .. 'bang, clunk, clunk, bang .. I look inside .. the kneading paddle has gone AWOL !! .. uggg .. back into the muck and myre goes my hand AGAIN !! THIS time I got it FIRMLY in place.
If any of you use a bread maker .. you know there comes a point in the process when the beeper beeps and you ADD your fruit .. so ..the beeper goes and .. PLOP goes my 3/4 cup of CANNED cranberries .. I hang back at the kitchen table .. filling little snack bags with alfalfa for the bunny .. and .. I'm thinking .. 'sounds kinda SLOSHY to me .. I open the lid .. DAWG .. cranberry loaf soup is happening right before my eyes !!!! QUICK .. what would be the remedy ?? FLOUR .. I grab the whole wheat flour and proceed to throw some in .. a 1/4 of a cup at time .. the gizmo is whizzin .. and before I even realize it .. I am lookin a wee bit like CASPER .. the flour is all over my face and hair as I had been intent on watching the whole process .. right now the 'loaf' is in it's second rise cycle .. and I am hoping it doesn't turn into BLUE JAY food !!!

Off to make supper

Mmmmmmmm .. I can almost SMELL the Hyacinthe Carol .. I am going to have to get to a florists and get a couple ..

Ann .. I have only ever made ..non bread maker bread .. a couple of times, and was not too impressed as I didn't seem to have the 'knack' .. it did, however, SMELL awesome when cooking .. the bread maker does as well, but not as intense.

Looked out into the back yard at 6am (course it's dark out there) and here is a small Doe bedded down on what at that point looked like the INSIDE of Lilly's compound !!!! I tapped on the window and she looked at me .. but made no move to get up .. I went out onto the patio .. and I then realized she was on the OTHER side of the compound .. I walked closer (I had thought perhaps she had been hit by a car) .. I got about 5' away and she got up and walked back into the back forty .. not at a run or kicking up her heels .. it's SO dark I can't see her very well .. am waiting for some light .. EVERYONE .. be they human or animal has to be careful on the property right now as the melt proceeds .. the driveway is quite slick in spots .. and the snow has a hard crust on it .. fingers crossed that she's OK..

Seems to be a storm on it's way here from out west .. due to arrive overnight tonight .. guess we'll have to wait and see if it materializes ..

Hope everyone has a great week

it's been snowing since 7:30 and we already have 5cm. Cooper loves the snow!

From the Weather Network:

Warnings
Greater Victoria
10:39 AM PDT Monday 9 March 2009
Snowfall warning for
Greater Victoria continued

5 cm of snow for much of southern Vancouver Island through this afternoon.

This is a warning that significant snowfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A localized area of low pressure that developed early this morning over the south coast continues to wrap bands of snow over much of southern Vancouver Island. Snowfall amounts of 5 cm are expected before the system pushes to the south later this afternoon.

An Arctic ridge of high pressure building over northern British Columbia will produce strong outflow winds through coastal valleys and inlets. The strong outflow winds in combination with the cold temperatures will produce wind chill values near minus 20 degrees over the coastal valleys and inlets today and tonight. Winds are expected to abate tomorrow morning.

Morning all, busy weekend, painting basic floorcloth, all but finished, too busy for me..likely will give it to sister in law..might throw it on floor, live with it a day or 2 then decide..worked on cleaning back deck, winterized it with plastic, thank goodness I didn't take down plastic, winter was back this morning...snow and freezing rain..

Computer down at work since Friday, just got back from Toronto picking up yet another, all my files have to be transferred .. can't gab, borrowed co-workers' just to check in on all of you..

Leila and Kane..just want to squeeze them..so cute..

Albertarose will have to check on family name..moved into town about 4 yrs. ago..did you visit them, can you give me an idea about where they may live?

"M" you are always up to something..some good some not so good..lol
last week making break in breadmaker, I was doing as they said, work ingredients to the corner and make a hole in middle for yeast..guess the spoon fell down while my back was turned..lol...hey, do you all remember when we were younger, well some of you are younger than I so may not remember..you'd just die if someone did it now, you use to put money or an object in a birthday cake and the person finding it would get a gift..can you imagine that being done..was the thing up north, no-one that I know of ever came to harm..

OMG Joanne, what do you do with all those plants?

Don, have you returned north of the border..just scanned the posts, might have missed your 'eh' at the border...

DAWG Betty .. I do SO remember the Birthday cake caper LoL .. it just was NOT birthday cake if' it didn't have a quarter in it !!! Sometimes the coin was wrapped in waxpaper .. sometimes not .. my D in Law in 'Ms Fussy pants' .. as are her friends .. NO WAY would that happen .. but .. 'back in the day' it was so FUN ^_^

GADS .. you don't like your floorcloth ? Lucky Sis n Law ...

Was an outdoors day here ... Lilly is having lotsa fun walking atop the snow .. the Doe that bedded down by the fence finally got up and left .. .. still not sure what the scoop was on why she was so near the house.

Made the INTREPID trip into the GREAT CANADIAN SUPERSTORE today .. 3 miles of walking (guesstimate) and an hour later .. left happy with my finds .. also met about 5 people I hadn't seen in ages ..

Am happy to have the ingredients to make .. SPANAKOPITA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanakopita
Have had it a couple of times over the past few months and finally decided to try it myself .. fingers crossed ..

As I HEAR it .. we are expecting a HUGE winter storm from the south west within the next day or so ..
I NEVER really believe the warnings as the meteoroligists have been SO incorrect this winter .. however .. ya never know !!

Take care everyone

Gosh .. I had thought the Superstore (or what we call the STUID Store at times) .. was right across Canada !!
Just one of the many 'BIGBOX' stores .. get yer groceries, drugs, clothes, and wine in one place (no garage though)
It's a big ol store .. with nothing CONVENIENTLY close to one another .. as in .. pharmacy on the west wall .. and dairy on the east wall .. good prices ... but you pay in time spent in the store walking from dept to dept.

Starting to look a bit foreboding outside .. dull and grey ..

Best finish doin 'stuff'

Seeding a couple of kinds of cherry tomatoes and a tropical climber called the Butterfly Pea (clitoria ternatea).

Also planning to do a few more wintersowing jugs; I'm finding doing them inside much nicer (and warmer) than doing them out in the garage...luckily there's lots of snow to bury the jugs in...blah.

I agree. I think Superstore IS right across Canada. I've seen them in Halifax and Charlottetown and in Vancouver. Can't say about Newfoundland.

Am back from the first Ottawa Symphony rehearsal - concert in two weeks. I'm glad I played the Dvorak 8 in November with the other orchestra because the Moldau and the Smetana (I can't remember the name of it), both have a H... of a lot of notes. Not particularly difficult for the most part - just will keep me VERY busy playing them all. We have the Ottawa Youth Orchestra joining us for the last two and those kids can all play it.

This morning I played at the performance group which my local music teachers' group has several times each year and I was quite pleased with how it went.

Have a good night.

Ann .. you certainly are busy .. not a BAD thing. Do you find you can play these pieces from memory after a bit ? I know when I played piano I was that way inclined .. drove my music teacher BUGS as she felt I should be READING the music.

Well .. NO STORM evolved overnight .. and I am doubting it will materialize .. and it isn't that cold out either.

Off to PAY my income taxes this morning .. ya know ..something about having to PAY on money you already paid taxes on seems unfair .. AND .. they want the sum in quarterly installments .. I am paying in ONE lump sum .. I HATE to have that 'payment thing' hanging over my head !!

Am still grousing about how dark it is outside just past 7am .. want to head out, but will wait a bit .. I can see the deer out back waiting .. I wonder what they think of the time change ??

Enjoy your day

Nope, must have put the wrong name for the store, we've Superstore in Midland and Barrie but this is an entirely different store..I'll check it out on Friday..

Well did attend the portrait session, those girls have been doing it for quite some time, almost intimidating..needed a lightbox and with 10 in the class and only 3 lightboxes, you had to wait your turn...so going to Curry's at lunch and picking myself up one..just incase I take a liking to this art..at least if I have the box I can play at it..

Cold outside and dull as can be..just waiting for suzanne and off for lunch we go...

Joanne, I'm usually quck on the uptake but when it comes to this 'winter sowing' I can't get my head around it..just not sure how the concept works...

I've been receiving seeds from many of my dg friends..haven't been lucky with inhouse early sowing last year..started too early, perhaps I'll wait till after my trip with grandsons to Washington D.C. Easter weekend then get at it..nice little greenhouse (mikey mouse thing) for $49.99 at Home Depot I think it was...anyway, not a lot of money wasted if the plants don't grow..worth a try..

Fancy, knew I missed something..Dancing with the Stars..who are the dancers this year..anyone good?

Ann with the amount of playing you do, you must have them all down patt...your grandaughter sure is a beauty...

Must be nice "M" to look outside and see the deer..on my way to work this morning there was a paddock with horses, a few were getting friskie so 'spring must be in the air'!

Betty - there's always more music that I haven't yet encountered. And while some music stays under the fingers, other music doesn't.

Am still working on the photo show for the FC and am nearly done.

Went to aquafit, taught two students, got my haircut, and dropped by the luthier who made my viola. I need some varnish repair - the result of a collision with a cello bow recently which knocked some varnish off the scroll of my instrument. Not a serious injury, but I need to get it touched up.

Gotta go make dinner as I have another student after dinner.

DAWG !!! We are in the midst of a huge winter storm off Lake Superior .. someone Hit me over the head with a few WET NOODLES the next time I become a 'NAY SAYER' !!!

Busy day today as we decided to get everything DONE as we are likely going to lose a day tomorrow due to snow ..

I made the SPANAKOPITA and am very happy with the outcome .. and so were the 'Guinea pigs' :-)

Betty .. good luck re the 'light box' .. handy to have I take it ? WHich means I have ZIPPETY doo idea what a 'lightbox is' but am guessing it helps you see things more clearly ?

Ann .. glad to hear your photo montage is nearing completion .. that'll be a load off your mind...

GADZOoooooooooooooKS !!! We have 'about 30cm of drifted snow already fallen, and the wind just keeps blowing in more ..
Am curious as to how we are even going to get out the back door to commence the snow removal .. think I'll have another cup of coffee before I begin that frightful task .. and hoping Lilly will stay in bed just a bit longer this morning or she is going to have to become a 'Winter WADING Westie' ^_^

"M" sorry you got the storm, last night on my way home it was just about turning to freezing rain then temps dropped so quickly, a few flurries..could almost count them on my fingers...this morning the sky is heavy, they are calling for high winds 50-90kl..wind will help dry up some of the melting so that's good, providing it doesn't do more damage..best you stay in and enjoy a day of rest..you are always on the go..any more news on a possible trip 'south' meaning here..lol

A lightbox, what does it do, well I can use it when doing stained glass..sometimes you purchase glass and don't see true color, by putting glass on lightbox you get to see what it will look like in your piece..

Then with portraits, you can get proper perspective of the subject you are painting..i.e. eyes/nose/ears in proper location, otherwise who knows what would happen...then for quilting as well, tracing patterns..so multi use...

LeeAnn and Cindy won't be in the office until close to noon, Paul is in Toronto and Suzanne, can't find her for files so she's working hard, ME, well I brought in the lightbox, photo of grandson and I'll just play at learning how to shade with pencils until my next Monday course..

Ann, luthier must be a trade that is slowly disappearing is it? Glad you can have you viola repaired...sorry, must have missed what you are doing with your collage?

Got the final ok last night, am getting the 4 grandsons Thursday afternoon of Easter weekend, travelling to Washington DC with them and returning on Tuesday..Greg & Mel and Lisa&Jeff all think I've lost it..taking them for that long and all together...other trips have only been for 3 days...I'm so looking forward to this outing, sure hope I feel same once it's behind me..lol

Good morning.

Betty - I think there will always be a need for quality instruments and people willing to pay for them and people need repairs and maintenance as well. I think what you referred to as a collage is the picture show. The Food Cupboard which I ran for many years and at which I still volunteer has just finished 20 years in operation. Can't celebrate that, but we decided we CAN celebrate 20 years of volunteers who have made it work.

I've been going over 20 years worth of pictures, identifying people and the last step was putting them all in order. We will give them all to students next week to make a 15-20 minute Power Point presentation for our AGM. They are temporarily on a web site at http://violaann.smugmug.com/gallery/7293768_6vQwo#P-1-15 if you'd like to have a look. You'll need a password - 1989.

I'm about to head in to the FC to volunteer. Will BBL.

Wonderful rendition of Amazing Grace ... Celtic Women also performed in that same venue .. absolutely awesome .. thanks for sharing Ann ^_^

Betty .. you must trust your grandsons implicitly to do something as adventurous as you are about to do. I wish you all the best .. make TONS of memories and have a BALL !!!

Snow clean up is at a standstill right now as we wait for any further drifting. Some of the drifts have been in excess of 5 to 6' deep .. even difficult for the big snowblower tractor. Because my wrists are still behaving badly .. I have basically just been doing a moderate amount of shovelling in and around the patio area .. Lilly is almost depressed as I think she thought the snow was going away !!!!!
Seems all the way to just before the east coast folks are experiencing a drop in temps .. the Prairies are in the DEEP FREEZE !!!

Best go check my bread .. take care

Not celebrating today (no TIME!!). I started out running late for a meeting I didn't want to attend, then had lunch with someone who really dislikes me, and tonight I won't be home from Handbell practice until 9:30, so no time today (we ALL have days like this, eh?!)

I've had 3 people sing "Happy Birthday" to me, so far :-)

Awwwwwwwwwwww thanks lots, ladies!!
Marilyn, the card was so sweet, and Loverley... :-) Thank you Anne, Joanna, Betty, Leslie

Well, it's been a busy one, but much nicer than I thought it would be - last year at this time was difficult (no job, no church, and although my hubby (who is a wonderful person) was here, I didn't have anyone else from my family around, and very few Calgary friends .
This year is as opposite a year as I could wish - love my job (boss got me a cake), I have a lovely church family, handbell practice went well tonight, and I got lunch bought for me at work. Then I come online & find my DG friends wishing me a happy birthday! And I have other new friends who are sending me wishes as well. WOW!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone!! I'm feeling so blessed! :-)

Lovely pic Susan :-)

I am home !! Been just a day here and it ain't over yet.

Lilly had to be at the groomers by 9am .. I had to have my baking to the AIDS office by 9am .. and Gord to the Opthalmologist by 9:30 .. got it all done .. most frustrating part was the 2.5 hour wait at the docs .. his office was PACKED .. seems Tuesday was cataract removal day and the post ops were in the office for their check ups.
We only have TWO Opthalmologists in TBay .. so .. you can imagine whe patient load they carry with the population aging ..

After the eye doc we went a looked at new woodstoves as ours is 18 years old and I tend to think it should be replaced .. nothing much has changed 'looks wise' .. cept now you can get them with fancy LEGS instead of the pedestle .. I stil like the latter .. a woodstove raised up over the hearth is just one more place to have to clean or chase dog toys out from under LoL

GORGEOUS afternoon here .. brisk .. but sunny

Have a meeting at the police station tonight .. best figure out supper ..

I got the plastic at home depot, vapor plastic is very thick and worked well. It also stood up well against the wind, snow etc. I removed the plastic, flipped it off on nice days. Light weight plastic may not handle that much. I duct taped it together to make the tent.

Hi folks. Catching up here. Went out to dinner to celebrate Friday the 13th and then took in the 3rd year recitals of two students at the University - one on violin and one on viola. Came home to find the power out. There was a fire at the nearby Hydro sub station, about 1 1/2 miles from home, around 6 pm and the power was out until after 10 pm when they managed to reroute some power to the neighbourhood. We are being asked to conserve power for the next few days to avoid rotating black-outs. Theres a video at http://www.ottawasun.com/News/OttawaAndRegion/2009/03/14/8744646-sun.html

Am trying to declutter but I'm not making very good progress. Also am working on some overgrown, leggy African violets which need repotting. Think I'll head out for some appropriate soil.

Whew !! We reached about +10 C or more yesterday here in Thunder Bay .. actually dug out some chairs and sat on the patio watching and listening to the snow melt and make HUGE run off puddles which Lilly LOVES to bound through :-)
Seems it'll be more of the same today .. can only hope ^_^

Took in the St. Urho's Day Parade here yesterday http://www.sainturho.com/origin.htm the actual St Urho's Day is March 16, the day before St Paddy's Day .. it's a whimsical little Folklorish celebration .. since TBay has the largest population of Finnish Folks outside of Finland, well, it's kind of a neat day to celebrate. I must say that the Finnish people are a wonderfully happy and giving group of folks ..

Made some 'Irish Soda Bread' for the priest at our little church out this way .. my Mom started the tradition years ago,and I carry it on on or around St Patrick's Day. Father Donnelly is from the same part of Northern Ireland as my family. No doubt we'll be discussing the 'flare ups' over home .. I certainly do hope they can quell the dissent quickly this time .. I'd hate to see a return to the 90's :-(

Hope everyone enjoys their day

OMG "M" that sounds as though it was a lot of fun..checking out your link..we didn't get quite as high in temp as you think it was +6 and calling for +8 today..drats, the economy affection local news stations..we don't get early morning news for our area..they run re-runs of yesterday news..how sad is that..layed off so many employee's at the AChannel..oh well, I'll take what Mother Nature gives me..

Got outside for a few hours as well, so much tree branch debris..was a hard winter..had a bonfire going..will do a few hours again today..lordy, I'd love to take some of the stored items such as front verandah swing out today but know there is snow yet to come..probably one big snow storm right?

Few things to clean downstairs, although I say that it could take a couple of hours..everything else A ok so it just might be a sitting day and I can play with my sketching..

Photo of my floorcloth done on linoleum...just simple lines with colors picking up that of new furniture..not quite what I wanted, bit too busy, although it does brighten things up, most likely will do another..SIL says it matches her colors to a 't'

I've the one I just took off that is now on the table..will give it a good wash, a few coats of finish to freshen it up and it can go on the front deck..not today, more snow right? lordy I'm anxious

Edited to read...

Now I have to go find new cushions for the chair..one thing always works into a dozen more...

DawnLL,

I've been painting my house for about 3 years now...hard to fit in with working & gardening. I also am terrible with picking the colors. I went to a paint store & they sent a consultant/designer out to my home to choose the colors. The fee was $80, but I received 20% off all the paint & supplies. Every room I get done is awesome. I am really glad that I followed the advice & colors chosen by their expert. She even sat with my daughter and gave her color choices for her room that would go with the rest off the house. Worked out wonderfully. It was Walls Alive that I went with. My house was painted all white when we bought it. Now we have color and it looks fabulous and feels warmer. Main floor is almost complete. Basement is next.

I HAVE to paint my bedroom .. and want a NEUTRAL colour .. so far .. I have been lurking around online llooking at the
'Virtual tours' of homes for sale here in TBay .. gosh .. some folks sure do have the 'Spirit of ADVENTURE' when it comes to colours .. I'm kind of a NEUTRAL typa gal because I tend to change the bedding (comforter) so often .. so .. I go from a rich Maroon and Gold for winter .. to lacey and off white for summer and sometimes go through a stage with pastel pink roses .. gonna take me a bit to try and figure out a colour ..

Dawn Benjamin Moore has sample jars -enough you can put it on the wall and get a good idea of the color. I think some other paint companies may do that now also. ( I buy them for craft projects!)

Marilynne I dont go for neutrals - my bedroom is raspberry, my rescue room/den/computor/guest room is forest green and my living/TV room is wine!

Betty - I love the floorcloths. Never felt up to trying something like that myself.

Fancy - did you do the stenciling in your room? Very pretty?

Dawn - I like your room, but I know what you mean about not what you intended. I went through that with DR a few years ago. I won't bore you with pics here, but the whole saga is documented at http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/656493/

I think I went through 2 cans of paint, each being tinted twice before I got what I wanted. Once we painted a long wall and considered leaving it even though it wasn't what we REALLY wanted.

gotta go have lunch. First of several rehearsals in 40 minutes

I love your floor cloths! you have an amazing talent to be able to do these pieces of artwork!
I liked all the talk of color with the decorating because it's like having a gardening moment indoors.
I also tend to select the more neutral colors with warm woods and often think about putting a color on a wall or a room and never have the nerve to do it. I tend to take the chances in the garden instead.

Today we have had a snow squall, sun and now light snow fall. It is only -7 today so at least we are out of the -25's.
The nice thing is now we have light a lot longer so I know the cold will leave us soon.

Betty, your creativeness is amazing .. like Ann .. I would be sort of lost trying to acheive the results you have with making a Floorcloth .. I'm afraid I am guilty of 'NON STICK TO ITNESS' !! I'd get half done .. put it away with EVERY good intention of finishing .. and .. well .. it'd never be completed, and I have THE perfect place for one ..

All this talk of painting and colours etc has me in "A" mood .. not quite 'THE" mood .. but gettin there !!
On one of my 'lurks' through the homes for sale, I did a virtual tour of a home that seemed to be decorated in shades of, 'cocoa' ... darker in some rooms and then lightening out as it progressed to the bedrooms .. so .. the colour would be a 'tan colour' .. not beige or off white .. but just a bit darker .. but .. it looked so warm .. may have a boo for some swatches today.

Weather .. WELL .. we were even mentioned on the NATIONAL news last night .. glorious temps are abiding here .. and several folks (me included) have sunburns (facial) .. heading up into the double digits of plusitude again today !!
The ONLY downside is the quick melt .. pretty puddly out there, and icy in spots not touched by the sun.

HAPPY ST URHO'S DAY ^_^

Morning, please not talk of talent, if you can tape a box design then you can do it...yes, talk of colors brings the garden season just a little closer..

yesterday I walked the gardens and saw so much green hidden under a layer of leaves, so wanted to get out my rake but refrained...yes I did, great willpower..lol

However, there were two plastic Muskoka chairs in a corner of the front deck, took them out and onto the deck, have a water feature, cleaned it and put it on..lordy, water can't freeze if it's running can it? just the sound soothed my soul...

Much of the dead tree branches have been picked up and into a fire, so that is a start.. back deck all decorated, just waiting for the winter plastic to come off, but wise I am..although we are going to have temps tomorrow as high at +14 and much same till Friday, -8 and snow for weekend..let's hope some type of front comes in and blows it in another direction..not yours of course...

Received more seeds from DG friends, so last night with my garden journal I received in a swap on my knee, I filled the packets and went through all the seeds thinking of where they will be planted..

Early this morning letting Sailor out I noticed beside the back deck a few stragglers of hollyhocks, many flourets with seeds within..so in they came, sat and got all the seeds..do you think they'll have any value??? worth a try I guess...

Do hope you will enjoy your day..let's hope it's a sunshine day in your neck of the woods..

Pretty "M", got a plant for my birthday, looks similar ..must see if it's from the same family..there are mini/mini pink flowers on long threads..it closes at night and opens in the morning..almost looks like a 4 leaf clover...I'll just pretend won't I that it's a Shamrock...

Spent all morning making plans for Washington trip..the kids will absolutely go crazy spending Easter Monday doing the egg hunt on White House lawn...says we might even get to see Obama...probably from afar but even so it would be a treat for the 4 boys..

It's 55 here today..best enjoy because by the weekend possibly more of that white stuff

Betty .. the FER SURE name for Shamrock is OXALIS .. and it is 3 leaved (mine is) and it does close at night .. but .. my flowers are delicate and white .. pink would be so pretty.
My friend is waiting to gift me with a purple/burgundy Shamrock/Oxalis that she has .. I can hardly wait :-)

55! Wow .. disappointing day here .. was to have been warm and sunny ... but .. the clouds arrived as did a north west wind.

Went and bought a submersible pump this morning as the melting snow has caused quite the lake out there again .. SHEESH .. the lil darlin works like a charm .. has been running for about 3 hours and we are getting ready to turn it off soon ..best bux I have spent in a bit :-)

I sure hope your grands enjoy the White House Easter Egg hunt .. did you have to buy a ticket? Or .. is it first come first served ? WHat a neat thing to have a memory of doing .. you're a super Nan :-)

Best go check the pump

Marilynne - if your friend takes too long, let me know and I'll send a couple of tubers to you. I grow them in pots on my patio in the summer and in the winter, I store the little tubers much like my canna tubers - in the toe of an old nylon and in peat moss. I gave up on them as house plants because they were always dropping stuff from the flowers.

Ann .. those Shamrocks are just Gorgeous!!! How do they do outside .. I've never attempted putting any of my housplants outside except when we have rain showers .. if the temps are aboe 70F I'll put all my hanging plants (Hoyas and Defenbachia and Spiders) out for a bath, but I bring them in after a couple of hours ..
I hear ya on the petals on the floor .. messy !!

Windy and cooler here today .. sure hope we can run the pump again as Lake Stephenson is again filling up as the snow melts .. I do highly recommend one of those lil pumps if you have 'BIG water' encroaching upon your back door/patio.

Off to visit my Hopsice Client today .. she is not doing all that well this week.

Enjoy your day

Ann, those plants are gorgeous...I do put most of my houseplants outside on the deck spring/summer and take them in before there is any chance of frost...

Not much blue in the sky but then it's early..regardless of it being overcast, there is NO SNOW! now watch me, I've jinxed it and snow will come..

Stacey (Fairy) is coming fromTemperance Mi..a 6 1/2 hr. drive on Friday to spend the weekend..lots planned and a few painting lessons as well thrown in for good measure...I'm so looking forward to her visit..we met last fall in Frankenmuth but didn't get to visit much..this will give us the opportunity to do so..

I was out in the gardens this morning picking up branch debris, peeking at greenery while listening to the birdies chirp, still no sign of robins..I sooo wanted to get my rake out..how silly of me, another blizzard yet to come..

Enjoy your day everyone

Good morning,

Most of my houseplants get put into the screened porch around the windows in it for the summer - especially the Christmas Cactus which are always full of buds when I bring them in in September. The Oxalis I grow only in the summer and only outside. I HAVE been known to put some of the tubers right into my garden too, but they won't survive the winter if I don't lift them.

Was in to the Food cupboard for awhile this morning doing data entry from Monday's files - 47 families used the FC and we are doing national hunger count too; so it takes a bit longer. The coordinator is away over March break. I left them a note that I won't be in to interview this afternoon, but will come in to look at files.

I don't think I told you over hear, but I took a tumble at a rehearsal on Sunday evening. Was moving sideways through the pews at a church when I tripped over the leg of the pew. Because I had a viola in one hand and a bow in the other I couldn't grab anything to steady myself and I was surrounded by sold oak. I did what most musicians will do - salvaged the instrument, perhaps at my own expense.

The bow escaped totally unscathed and viola escaped with a sizeable scratch on the back but no major damage. I manage to go down between the pews. I DID hit my jaw on something - have a couple of little scratches on it, but the bigger damage was where my tooth contacted the inside of the jaw.

By Monday evening I was looking really pretty - sort of like a port wine birth mark. I think I'll stay away from places where I have to explain for awhile though I have concerts with two different orchestras on Saturday and Monday and lots of rehearsals. The rest of me is a bit stiff and sore, but I'm able to play.

Yesterday I had the viola checked out by the luthier who made it. He will repair the scratch next week and there were a couple of other orchestra "battle scars" that I had already spoken to him about repairing. Then I dropped a sofa cushion cover off to a tailor.

My sofa is quite old, but still in pretty good condition (Barrymore from the late 70s). But some of the cushion covers were made w/o adequate seam allowance and a couple of them were raveling apart. I tried to iron on a patch over the worst - mistake and it melted. This is just the side of the cushion and I thought, I'll just take it apart and replace that part of the fabric (I have an extra metre of fabric). Well, I had forgotten about the piping on both sides which made the replacement complicated. Decided to let someone else deal with it.

Then I stopped by my car dealer. I had taken it to them 3 weeks ago saying I was hearing a buzz that I thought originated in the exhaust system. Well, $1000 later, none of the work having anything to do with the exhaust, I still had the buzz and a new one to boot. They have one mechanic who's been there for 27 years and HE looked at it and took a test drive with me.

After about 30 minutes of tinkering he said yes, I need the middle muffler. But there were two other buzzes. One turned out to be a stone. The third is in either the catalytic converter or the turbo system and that one will be the expensive one. The car is old, but generally runs very well. I will repair it, I think. Definitely the muffler (which they had advised me 18 months ago might be needed soon). Probably the cat or turbo as well as I like the car. From now on, he's the only one that I want to touch my car!

Well, I'm off to practice some. We've got Sarka and Moldau from Smetana's Ma Vlast - both of which have a lot of arpeggios and notes and which are endurance challenges. Mostly I need to do them daily to get through the concert on Monday. Hope you all have a good day.

Oh Ann have not heard the Smetana for many years - one of my all time favorites!

Sounds like you are haveing an accident week! Hope things start to improve soon!

Weather here is slowly improving, a bit of melt everyday but not enough to melt the ice at my back gate which is several inches I think so I cant even crack it loose. I go out there every day and crack and remove as much ice as possible on the theory there will be that much less to melt and reflood the area. And I do need to get into my back shed for poop bags! Unfortunately it is a brick patio and slopes to the back - the lowest part of my yard.

Took my elderly foster dog to our groomer yesterday since he is having surgery tomorrow and had some great news - the groomer wants to adopt him! He is a sweety but at 13 yrs old was going to be a tough adoption.

Had a tough time working out at Curves yesterday morning and by evening found out why when I started dripping and snuffling and generally feeling miserable! Same this morning so I will avoid as much human contact as possible until I dry up!

JEEZ Ann ... so sorry to hear about your fall .. I can imagine you must have some colourful, and painful, bruising .. how did the tooth make out? Reason I ask is way back when , when my son was 2 .. he was sitting on my lap and was being fidgety (we were in church) .. my mom would hold him, then give him back to me .. she handed him back to me and as he tried to settle into my lap again .. he threw his head backwards and hit me square in the mouth .. I literally saw stars .. my upper lip became swollen as the days went by .. but .. that was it .. no harm done .. until .. FIVE YEARS later !!! I had to have root canals on BOTH my 2 front teeth .. both my dentist and i thought and thought re the cause, until my Mom piped up and said "remember when Murray hit your teeth with his head" !! Bless Moms for remembering everything :-)

Hope you have a great visit with Stacey Betty ^-^

The tooth seems fine and I didn't bleed - at least not externally. I DID go raid the church kitchen for an ice cube when I felt it swelling. But it looks like I got punched in the jaw. Good for DH that there were lots of witnesses to the fall. I just think it's a miracle that the viola and bow escaped nearly unscathed as all I could think of as I went down between the pews (one with hymnal rack on the back of it) was rows of solid oak on both sides of me and what it would do to the viola and bow.

You are so lucky Ann not to have done more damage to yourself...thank goodness no broken bones...

Spent an hour at the Garden Gallery this afternoon, they are now getting into high gear for spring..omg I could have come home with a truck full, but was good, didn't..did purchase a pkg. of seeds though that say -quick flowering (4-6 weeks) and non fail..how can you go wrong..lol

To add a touch of spring indoors they had poppies, how you'd tell they are not real, well let's say they are so realistic, even touching the stems/leaves they have the feel of hairs...

One could go outside today with a light jacket, infact sunshine came out..

Stopped to pick up lunch at a little restaurant nearby, waitress and I got talking gardens..she just purchased a house and now that the snow is gone realizes that the owners let the dogs poop all over..she wanted to plant veggies but says it could create echolii (?) so no garden this year other than her building an above ground enclosure...

Did find myself a project though..even know where to put it..yep I do..it was an outhouse, not quite as big as was used, where you'd normally sit to do your 'thing' it's a shelf for flowers..the cutest thing..I'm going to make one...just loved it..

Betty RE:floor cloths... Yours look so lovely. I have a chunk of canvas that I bought a 'while' back to make a floor cloth but was unsure how to do the edges and finish it neatly, Would you explain the steps that go into making one just as beautiful as yours, please.
A few years ago I had another piece of canvas to make a f.c. and ended up making a hammock and giving it away. It was a thing of beauty and ever so comfortable, wish I still had it. I could at least be able to look at it and dream 'cause I never seem to get the opportunity to actually use it.

Love to share Albertarosey,

I don't use canvas though because I have found that it moves around and just isn't durable..

If you have a Home Depot or a flooring place nearby you can purchase a piece of linoleum which meets your needs...the one I 've just completed for underneath the dining room table is from a roll at Home Depot for $28.98 (I used the entire roll which is 6' x 8') smaller pieces can be cut from a large roll or you can purchase a small piece from flooring company...I try to purchase the roll with the least plastic type finish..although you don't paint on the finished side, you don't want the plastic to curl..

I lay my piece down and let the linoleum settle (i.e. rolled look it has because of being stored in that fashion) once it settles, only an hour or so .. I seal it, not really necessary but I find it doesn't take as much paint..(absorbing into the linoleum)..

I use Flecto Diamond Satin or matt varathane purchased at Home Depot but I think you can also get it at Walmart..it's the best because it's also used for final finish and it doesn't yellow and is great proptection..

I usually make a mixture of about 1/2 varathane and 1/2 water and with a brush I paint the entire linoleum (side you are working on) to seal it..won't take long to dry..

I also go looking to see if I've a beige or white gallon or pint of wall paint, not oil based nor high gloss, flat preferred and roll on a couple of coats..

Sometimes I pick an acrylic color that I want in my matt, I'll add water until it's quite liquid, brush it on my matt and then take plastic bags and just dab it on the matt to create a mottled effect..

acrylics from the $$$ store would work for navy/black/beige/white etc. all other colors I usually use Americana or Folk Art or whatever brand is available to you...you know those little bottles of paint only because they have better pigment..

Now I'm ready to design..

And that can be as simple as adding different borders of color and leaving the inner area solid, or, marking out a pattern, taping individually and painting color of choice..

Once the piece has dried, I usually leave it overnight, the finish protection coats are given..I put about 8 to 10 coats on a high traffic piece, for something that just might sit i.e. in a bedroom, rarely walked on, I'll do at least 4 or 5

More coats more protection..

As for how long I leave between coats, usually 1/2 hr. - you are using Flecto Diamond Satin or Matt finish Varathane, the same you used to seal the linoleum piece... (NO water added)

Know it sounds jibberish and confusing, simply let me know when you'd like to try one and I'll make sure I'm around..somewhere I have step by step with photo's on D.G. as some of the girls made one...

Betty, thank you for your generosity, both in words and in spirit. I never would have guessed that they were on linoleum!!!
It wasn't gibberish at all. Your directions are quite easily followed. I have in my arsenal of art supplies about 300 of those bottles of paint as that is what I use for my paintings. The back of the lino would give you a nice surface to paint on too. Wow, talk about a blank canvas syndrome, now all I have to do is plan the 'master piece' and get the greenhouse over with so I'll be a while before I can start but start I will.
Do you find that the edges curl up at all or does the varathane coats keep it flat?
Thanks to you I've certainly learned something today. Thank You...Albertarosey

I never went to see my relatives in V.H. but I remember them saying they were just past the railway tracks as you come into town??? Try the phone book if you would please, the last name is Schnitzler. It would be so nice to get in touch again. I bet spring is going a whole lot faster in your neck of the woods. I've still got snow on the ground but today's sun is taking it. Thank God. Bye for now.

Happy 'Spring Day' everyone...may it be the last of the snow..hardly a drop in my yard..couldn't wait, can't have pond going yet but did set up a little water feature on front deck..said to self, running water won't freeze, it's a feature with a 2 1/2 ft. faux rock, so funny, covered in ice, just mini drips coming out...

Drats, should have planned to bring Stacey (Fairy) who will be arriving this aft. to the show...one can only fit so many things 'to do'in 3 days!

It's sunshine and will be sunshine days over the next 3 or 4 days..perhaps on cool side but sunshine is ok..

AlbertaRosey, the trick to not having it roll on edges is not to purchase the hard finish linoleum (good side one would use on their floors) there are more pliable pieces..just check them out before purchasing...

Some nice warm days here - double digit temps so lots of melting going on. Just read in the paper we had twice as much snow this winter as last year! And a lot of it is still here! My flowerbeds on the north back yard are clear of snow. but there is still lots on the south and in front which does not get sun until midday.

I am in the midst of a rather nasty cold - have not gone out for 3 days except to take dog to vet probably another couple of days to go.

My sweet senior foster dog went in yesterday for his dental work and lost 16 teeth! Still lots left though. He also had a big lump removed from his side so I am keeping a bellyband on him so he cant lick - funny he licks the fabric! Tday he is very alert and hungry and went for a short walk.

I am SO happy for her and can hardly wait to meet her grandson ^_^

Weather here is downright TROPICAL, even though it does include SNOW. It's sticky, bulky snow that will languish atop the mud until Ma Nature does her thang and turns it into more MUD and puddles .. but .. right now the temp is 31F ..

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend

Good morning everyone,

What good news to start the day with. A new baby on the first day of spring! I hope you get to see the baby soon.

I slept well last night and until after the alarm came on this morning. The last two mornings I had been awakened by an aching knee and hip - battle scars from my fall. The swelling is gone from my jaw, but the bruise remains. I look real pretty, but I can't hide today. Have a rehearsal at 1 and a concert this evening.

Hope you all have a day that is as nice as the one we have in Ottawa.

It is not particularly cold and the snow seems to be light /fluffy ( I hope since I have to clear it) but the dogs were up to their bellys and I am going to have a hard time cleaning up after them!

And it is still snowing!

Good morning.

I hope the snow in Calgary goes as fast as it came. We are still waiting for our March snowfall in Ottawa and a large amount of our snow cover has disappeared in the last couple weeks.

The concert last night with the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra went well. The venue was new to me and quite a nice one - a recently deconsecrated Catholic church which is being made into a centre for the "Arts and Humanities". It needs much renovation, but they have a temporary stage which can seat quite a large orchestra. The acoustics are very good - I could hear everything. I expect that we will become more and more familiar with the venue.

Today is two rehearsals with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra which has a concert tomorrow evening.

I hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.

The snow is deep and heavy ( wet on the bottom) But a short while ago an ex neighbor came by with his snowblower and cleared the front sidewalks of half the block- both sides ! Then he will go down the back lane and clear around my car and my neighbors garage. This guy owns a house down the street although they moved a few years ago and he uses the garage as his workshop ( carpenter) .
When they lived here I started to hire his son to clear snow for me once he was old enough but they are too far away now. Sure glad he bought himself a toy!

DH & I take turns shoveling 3 neighbor's walks. In return we get fresh baked goodies. His thought is that it is great exercise & weight control doesn't really work when after, he has a bunch of treats to eat.

Oh boy Carol that is a lot of snow. I just talked to my Mom in Springbank and they have had a foot and a half so far and it was only 2 pm.
We don't have quite that much but it is heavy too so shoveling will be a workout.
It's snowing but very bright like a white out as you can't see the definition of the bumps and hight changes, makes your eyes funny.
This is definitely spring in the making.
Cheers

CRIKIES !!!

Well .. we certainly do have ICE .. can't get out of the house to walk to the garage .. be way too risky .. I did, however, get out and take a few pics whish I will post later.

Am feeling SO BAD !!! The deer are herded up at their feeding station waiting for me to 'come hither' with their corn .. ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

Poor Lilly slid over the patio on her way to do her thing .. turned and looked at me as if to say .."MOM .. FIX THIS' !!

Hope all are well

Take good care

Be careful Marilyn!

Lots of ice here too but mostly it is frozen clumps of snow and equally difficult to walk on but not slippery!

My sidewalk was totally clean yesterday - this morning it is covered with rough ice because some idiot drove too fast down the street before everything froze up last night and splashed water a good 6 feet over onto my walk!
I was cleaning it off and putting icemelt on it when a lady driving by stopped and thanked me! Said friends were walking their 15 yr old Dalmation last week and somebody had not cleared sidewalk, dog slipped, broke leg and had to be put down!

A bit cooler today so probably not much melt if any and more snow predicted for tomorrow. Really it is best if it does not warm up to fast so we dont then have floods!

My cold which started last Tuesday is much better but still hanging in so I am staying home mostly except for walking the dogs.

Carol, I so thought I'd have flooding but it melted slowly..no signs of snow in my yard but am sure we'll get one more storm out of Mother Nature..

It's been 4 days of beautiful sunshine BUT cold..brrrrr...deceiving..you'd not want to go out without a coat..

I so enjoyed my weekend with Stacey..would imagine she's almost home..both left shortly about the same time..

Couldn't believe the amount of gifts she brought me...a lot of the girls got her to shop for me for my birthday seeing as she would be visiting..such pretty garden art she brought..will have to post a photo..

Here's how our 'craft weekend' went..
She arrived late Friday afternoon, we went to the Garden Gallery, the Sew and Knit shop, another pretty garden art store (bought a butterfly stake) imagine that, by Saturday night there were 7...I got carried away with my scroll saw...lol.
Friday night we did some basecoating ready for a day of crafts..

Saturday more cutting of wood projects..left the house at 11am and went sightseeing..Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Meaford..stopping from time to time in boutiques...Sat. night more wood cutting while Stacey painted...included was a few lessons in rag quilt making..have to say by the time her vehicle was packed up there wasn't much room..

What did we accomplish...

4 Victorian Santa sleighs
2 decorative candle trio's
4 butterfly stakes
1 baby rag quilt
2 blackboards
1 wooden blackboard notepad...

Don't know who kept who busy..
Just know I'm awfully tired today..lol
came to work for a rest!

Hi folks,

Have been to aquafit, taught a student and then took my viola for repair. Stopped at the other string shop in the same building and have on loan, a small viola for a few days. Its a decent student instrument which I might consider buying as a back-up instrument.

Then I stopped by the FC for about an hour. Im working on a project there, little by little - a comparison of the clients files we have in each of two data base tables and then compared against the paper files we actually have. Its a little exercise thats worth doing from time to time to clean up our files.

Marilynne - I hope the ice is gone soon.

Betty - sounds like the craft weekend was worth doing.

Now, I need to do all those things that were put on hold while I was preparing for two concerts in one weekend.

Betty .. it sure sounds as though you and Stacey had a productive and fun weekend .. You both got so much accomplished .. great memories ^_^

Glad to hear your cold is leaving you Carol .. but BOO to the driver who splashed throught the puddle and caused the ice. Sad news re the Dalmation as well ...

Hope you got all your 'stuff' done Ann .. I finally accomplished that feat about 10 minutes ago !!! AND .. I have had ALL day !!

Re the ICE .. well .. nobody moved from the house today .. it's about 300ft from the house to the garage .. and it is GLARE ice .. what is going to happen over the next while is anyones best guess .. but .. broken bones are NOT on that list ..
We have lost a lot of branches that were weighted down with ice .. mega clean up when we are able to.

Best get supper on the make ..

Take care all

Yes, Betty. Had to leave the viola. Will pick it up on Friday or Saturday. There is a sizeable dent in the back which will be steamed out and then the varnish repaired. Any varnish work needs time to dry. I don't plan to practice a lot this week, but I should look at some music before a rehearsal next Sunday. And I'll try out the student instrument. Seems quite nice and not very expensive.

It's starting to get gloomy outside, extremely cold, calling for rain but would imagine it could develop into a few flurries, better flurries than rain..I've escaped flooding and have no wish to experience it..

Got a good nights rest last night, already thinking of my weekend 'to do' list..Aline and her DH will visit tonight, Tom will measure for a 1" dressed plywood door for the little linen closet in the washroom..I so want to do a trompe l'oeil design on it..sooo, if he has it made by then, I'll have a project...

Keep looking at those beds and want to rake but know I must not..slap my hands if I even make a hint of doing so..

I imagine Ann you'll be pleased to get it back and looking like new..when next are you off travelling ???

Betty, I don't expect it to look like new - I'm antiquing it the hard way. (Some luthiers DO antique their new instruments before selling them). No more travelling planned until I go to Vancouver in late June. No big trips this year. The Viola Congress is in South Africa and it's a direct conflict with the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival. I'm staying home.

We WILL take Bob's antique Porsche (44 yrs old) to West Baden Springs, Indiana in September http://www.eastcoastholiday.org/ We've decided that since he got a new soft top and it no longer leaks, we should drive the car instead of just leaving it sitting in the garage for our kids (both of whom want it) to inherit it.

It's bright and sunny here, but I think, still fairly cold. Doesn't really matter because there's so much more strength to the sun these days. The snow on my front lawn is fast disappearing.

Have a good day.

DAWG Carol .. how nice to be able to see a FLOWER .. we have still got a few mountains of snow left here .. a consequence of the first year of having Lilly's compound .. we MOUNDED the snow inside as it's quite the workout trying to toss it over the fence !!! Be re thinking the snow placement next year ..

Have been informed via the news channels here in TBay NOT to run about looking for sand OR salt .. it is GONEZO .. sold out .. bye bye !!! Lucky for us we have some that DH shoveled into bags during a fall hunting trip up in the Boreal forest .. we were able to get out to the garage and drive into the city today .. after all .. SAFEWAY had a SALE on LoL and . .. since Lilly would need to wear a bathing suit to go walking out here .. she LOVED the ride .. specially the FREE Timbit from Horton's Drive thru :-)
Feel bad for her as nobody wants to take her walking .. the ice is now mush and bound to return again to ice overnight.

My hospice client is now hospitalized .. so will be going up to see her tomorrow .. I do believe it is NOT looking good for her :-(

Hope your Viola is looking in great shape when you get it back Ann ..

I can imagine your painting on the linen cupboard door will be awesome Betty :-)

I best boogie here .. need another log on the fire for sure !!!

Hi all, just catching up with the news after three hectic weeks of kiwanis festival. Ann, pretty scary about your fall and your viola! I need to take mine to John Newton to touch up too. I am trying to put away piles of music and was making progress but then I got called to play Calgary Philharmonic this morning at the very last minute...scrambling to reschedule students and off to sight read Schumann's first symphony. I really appreciate the friendly tone of this group, feels like dropping in on friends! Theresa

Been watching the news, prayers for you who are in flooding areas..omg the newscaster said in some counties water flooding is up about 40'..showed a garage and you could only see top of garage door..do hope you are not in this region and you are safe...

"M" you'd best stay in another day or so! Now what would happen if you had another 1 or 2 blizzards, wouldn't the municipality have some salt/sand? sorry to hear about your client..prayers for her and her family..

Violist, sounds as though you've a busy day ahead...

So foggy this am, I'm sure we'll have rain today..much too mild for snow..will try to rake a little this weekend..just take my time, do a bed each day, make things easier when it's time to have the entire yard done...

Drats it's Thursday and I've nothing pressing on my weekend 'to do' list..you see Aline and Tom came last night, he took measurements and said he'd get it done next week, so..waiting to start that project..

Fancyvan, love the photo...imagine it surviving under all that snow ..

Greetings from a 'cool' Thunder Bay .. however .. our ice has somewhat disappeared .. so I can handle cool.

Seems everyone has been busy .. I was going to attempt to move us over as I see we are reaching close to 1000 views .. but ..no one with dial up has mentioned a problem and I am totally NOT sure if I would do it correctly.

My Hospice client fell in her apartment and broke her hip .. geel so bad for her as she coveted her independence .. at 91 I am doubting she will be going home again .. but .. one ever knows .. as she says .. "This has certainly knocked the starch out of me" !!
Parking at our ONE regional Acute care hospital is a NIGHTMARE .. I wrote a letter to the newspaper .. there are 4 lots to park in .. NONE of which are in close proximity to the dang hospital !! I got into one yesterday, only to find out, along with SEVERAL others .. that it was full !!! How exasperating .. by the time I was able to get OUT .. I had had IT !! I ALMOST felt I was becoming claustrophobic in the lot as at least 10 vehicles were jockying to get out at the same time !!!! Do NOT know who the 'mental midget' was who designed these lots .. but .. they sure did not THINK first !!!

Out for lunch with the gurls today .. I best get outside and feed the wildlife

TGIF
