Nice article. Something many of us do and we all don't want to have to independently figure out.

The rubbing alcohol you mention is also good for cleaning Sharpie marker off of labels (not wood). If you make a mistake or are reusing labels, a little rubbing alcohol is easier than peeling stickers.

I've also used steel wool to remove old pencil from metal tags

I have about 1,000 white plastic markers in use. I use a fine permanent ink black pen from Wal-Mart. When the markers have served their purpose I stand them in a glass of bleach. After about 24 hours I run them under the tap and wipe off the writing with my fingers if it has not already vanished.
