| Some chemical or another that I used to try to clean a large pot has dripped onto the sides and top of the sink and stained it black. I've used vinegar, steel wool pad and cream tartar paste. Over the last couple of months I have gotten it to lighten a little to a dark grey. I think this was by grinding the ruined metal away with the SOS pad. There has got to be a way to remove the stains/restore the finish. Do you know of any? |

| Try Bar Keepers Friend (the powdered kind...I think they have some cream or liquid forms and I don't know if they work as well). You might also try the Magic Eraser. The trouble is if it's something that actually reacted with the stainless steel and the black is the result of some chemical reaction then it won't come off unless you manage to grind away all the steel that reacted, but if it's something that's just stuck on there really good then hopefully one of those two things will take it off. |

| Oh, it is the chemical reaction. Is there any way to get it to react in the opposite way? |

| Probably not but what was it that caused the problem? If it was a cleaning product or something it wouldn't hurt to call the 800 number on the bottle, they may have some ideas on how to fix it, or if their product reacted with your sink and they don't have a warning on the bottle saying not to use on stainless steel then they may be responsible to fix it. If you were mixing all sorts of different cleaners/chemicals then they probably can't help you, but if it was just one product that did it then it's worth trying. |

| After using Bar Keeper's Friend, use Maas Polishing Creme. It is for ALL types of metals. |

| Using cream of tartar vinegar/baking soda paste helped some, what helped the most was selling the house♪♫! |

| Thanks! I am almost to Korea now, I will fly out of St. Louis on the 10th! It has been a loooong 10 months without DH and I can't wait to get there! Getting our house de-cluttered and then shipped out was a tough job, but I am so glad that I "downsized" before shipping the majority of the remaining stuff to storeage. It will be so much easier to put the house together without having to figure out where to stash 100+ vases, tons of clothes that do not fit, and all of the other "stuff" that I got rid of. A de-cluttered life is so much easier. |

| I believe you when you say that. I can hardly wait to be downsized and free of all the excess myself. Thanks for blazing the trail. |

| The real trick will be in not getting that way again... For the past 3 months, I have had only enough stuff in the house to support life. It was like camping in your own home; one plate, cup, bowl...computer, tv & air matteress. During this time I knew that everything that I bought had to be donated, consumed or had to fit into my suitcase. I can not tell you how hard shopping was! I was always seeing the perfect this or that and knowing that I could not buy anything! It was a real lesson to me in how much of an impulsive shopper I am. |

| Oh my gosh...Juney Bug, I have missed hearing about all of your goings on. I am really glad to have stumbled across this thread today. Just this week I gave a good scrubbing to my stainless steel kitchen sink. I used Comet and a paper towel and since there were no major stains, the Comet worked really well and I have a nice clean sink.
I see that today is the 10th and the day that you fly out. I will be looking forward to hearing about the flight and your thoughts on Korea. How very cool to live in another land for a while. It has to be very interesting. Take care, rest up and when able post and let us know that you arrived safely.
A quick hello to ecrane, venice, huckleberry and gava. I hope I didn't miss anyone.

| Whew! Still jet lagged now, the morning of the 15th. I guess that it takes a week to re-do your body clock.
Lots of stainless steel here in my apartment: sink/drainboard, window frames, downspouts from the gutters - all so shiny except for the sink (DH isn't much of a housekeeper and does not even have any Comet!). I at least have the American Military store to shop at until I get used to the area and learn a bit more of the language. The prices seem to be lower in the neighborhood shops, but I have to check the currency exchange rate ever day and carry a calculator to actually know what the prices are.
If you ever have to make a 14 hour plane trip, plan on swelling feet and legs. I did excercises, walked and did stretches, I did everything that I had read about and still had footballs for feet/ankles. It took 2 days to get to "near normal" size and I propped them up above my heart when I sat for long periods and took brisk walks every couple of hours. They still feel tender and sort of bruised.
I stayed in Seoul the first 3 days and it was neat! Just like most big citys, but I guess they do not use "Eminent Domain" laws to clear out the small "Mom & Pop" stores and shops. High rise office or apartment buildings next to tiny, ancient 1 & 2 story buildings. I sure do like the looks of this place! I live in the north, near farm fields and orchards in a mountain valley (it is all moutains in this country, I am told). Really a very beautiful country! Come for a visit?! |

| Oh, juneybug, how cool to hear from you! We are glad that you didn't arrive with a blood clot in your leg. It does sound like a wonderful place to go. I'd love to go teach English there - my husband said we can go when he retires. They are so appreciative of elders and teachers. Keep us posted. |

| Hooray! You made it! You have a great adventure ahead. Thanks for taking the time to check in. That's the best thing about the internet. I got a phone call from a Korean friend at 2 am. She laughed and said she just got off the phone with another friend and it was 4 am there. Enjoy! |
