About the miniblinds, a word of caution: I remember that they were once recalled for containing lead. Have to assume some of those found in thrift shops will fit into that category. I believe the recall was in the mid or late nineties so any dating from before then would be suspect. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell if they have lead by sight. You would have to use a lead testing kit (relatively inexpensive but still a pain...) This might not matter to everyone but if you have kids age 10 or under, you should DEFINITELY avoid using them.
Yep, good point. I think that was a fairly short window of time that those were being sold, but caution is good, especially with kids as you said or if you're marking a veggie bed. New plastic mini blinds (from the family dollar store for example) won't have that issue, but of course then you're not recycling.
