Just wanted to add one thought to gardening in small spaces. Narrow shrubs, not necessarily short ones, fit well in smaller landscapes because sky room is unlimited; it's the ground that's limited.
I'm discovering that as I er...ah... get o-l-d-e-r, shrubs are wonderful ways to incorporate flowers and attractive foliage without the constant work of annuals and perennials, especially in the suffocatingly summer-hot weather where I garden.
