I would like to know if using 'gray' water for watering flowers outside is a bad idea or not?
It occurred to me that we use lots of water showering, and doing laundry, and washing dishes. Can that water be run into a barrel and used? I am concerned about the soap, shampoo hurting my plants, although I realize it is a very small amount compared to the amount of water. Maybe most detergents are not harmful to plants anyway? I don't think it would be a good idea to water veg garden with, but just flowers. Any thoughts on this? Water here is getting $ and I thought, why waste it? There are 5 of us, so we use alot of water, especially in the summer.

Many "soap" products act as a fertilizer. When first married and "poor" we had a washing machine that leaked. We had the greenest lawn in the cul-de-sac. Other than that, no reason not to use it.
