This is my draft of sorts.. not finished drawing, but a Jester in the making. I ran out of Geodes and will try to find some this weekend. I may use the crystals at the end of his hat, still debating the hat and collar.

Any comments and or Ideas are welcome... This is my first Geode project. Work in progress as usual. The pattern is a combination of one I found on the internet and what I'm adding in, drew it free hand, so it may not be balanced exactly.

I love the design! It's going to look great when you are finished, Gourd! Cant wait to see pics along the way. Where do you get all of your geodes from?

Thank you cue_chik,

there was a man selling rocks on the side of the road going to my son's house. I'm sure all the rock shops carry the slices. These are small sized. I'd like to get a slice of a big one.

He's going to be terrific! I never would have thought of using geodes. Keep us updated on Jester's journey.

I sure will, I am so excited, I wonder how many projects a person can have ongoing at one time? Before they get kicked out of the house..lol

I couldn't find too many projects using geodes on the net, but I think they do use them in stained glass, not a real popular thing I guess. I really like the idea and plan to make something more scenic with them later on.

I have also seen geode lamps... Im not sure how they do it, but Im sure if you googled and saw them, you might figure out how they do it. looks like they just mortared them together in a rounded vase shape, turned them upside down and stuck a light bulb in them.. but they look really cool. Ill see if i can find a pic for you

some of the items I saw were geodes stood up with back lighting or a candle in or on them. I'll google some more. My interest though is primarily using them either in a mosaic or stained glass (I hate to dust), probably doesn't make sense to you, but if it can collect dust, I won't make it..lol or if it has A LOT of crevices for dust.. I won't make it.

LOL, yes it makes sense to me, and I have seen geodes or 'agate slices' used within a stained glass piece. They are very beautiful.

I guess you can see where I taped the xerox sheets of paper together. Maybe I should invest in a roll of white tracing paper, but it really doesn't matter to me what I draw on. I'll get this one transferred at one of the copy places or I may just use carbon paper since it is already the size It is going to be. It sure would have been nice to make it smaller but the geodes for the face were bigger and it would have looked out of proportion. Gonna try to make it long and thin that way it won't be so heavy. That is the reason I was looking for panels with geodes. The one I did see was really small, probably because they are so heavy.

On the geodes we have used them for years in stained glass. Make sure they are thin sliced or the light won't transmit through them properly. If you apply copper foil to the outside and solder in place it will work great. Glass can hold more weight then you think so don't be afraid of the size. If you think it will be to heavy then us Strong Line (metal banding) around the item in the seam and solder it into the seam so it can't be seen. If you need help with the correct way to do this just let us know and we can give you some guidence. If you put it around the geode and don't attach it right to the other parts it won't work as well.

Good luck and I hope to see a picture of it soon.

Brenda
