This was one of my favorite books as a girl too, as I also grew up practically alone, my parents were divorced when I was 3. Seeing this & those beautiful photos that went along with it brought my imaginings of it to full, blooming life. I think the only thing missing is a picture of a rose strewn sundial! I have adored roses all my life, but could never seem to grow them till we moved into this house 3 years ago. My garden isn't secret, but I have always wanted a garden like this!
Lisa, you are totally welcome. I didn't grow up alone (one of four) but often wished I was an orphan! And when I read this as a girl, I didn't notice the roses!!! It's when I reread it as an adult that I said "my word, there certainly are a lot of roses in there!"
