I think you have done very well Carrie! I read through the whole 'article' story, I like the way you have outlined the story while relating and keeping to the theme of an awakening of what nature and gardening are about, how it can bring joy and healing. I know my garden certainly gives me much joy and healing, both physically and mentally, one without the other does not make for a 'whole' person.
As you might already know, my sense of gardening with a feel for nature and it's creatures was once inspired by the movie, I wanted my own secret garden and I have almost achieved that, albeit without the walls (but I do have a tall hedge and trees!). I have gradually seen the Mistle Thrush make it's home here, but I wouldn't know where to find it's nest either! Their song is one of pure melody, a very long repertoire, and they eat the snails! Our cheeky Robin is always a joy, character they certainly do have a lot of!
There are many dialects in this country still well and truly alive. Once you can master one of them, the rest are easy to understand! It's not just the dialect, the accents are so diverse that you would think you were in a foreign country. Many people from other countries believe all English people speak with a plum in their mouth, not so!
Thank you so very much - as a true owner of a British garden (not to mention a critical one of the 21 photographers), your comments mean a lot. The dialect was all quoted directly from the book, although I found myself writing more and more like Burnett the more I transcribed. I didn't realize (or maybe I just didn't remember) that you had been so influenced by the movie! How perfect, then, that your photos should be the key illustrations!
Do you have roses? I was quite surprised - as an adult - to realize how essential roses are to the whole story, as I didn't remember them from being a kid. Well, thanks again for your kind and thoughtful comments.
Yes I have quite a few roses, essentials in the garden! One of my first projects was to make a special rose bed, but I also have a few dotted around in other beds. Take a look at my thread from a couple of years ago, somewhere geminisage mentioned TSG to which I replied, there's 3 parts.
Wow, well, I'm glad I got to use the pictures I used! What a fascinating and lovely thread to read ... thanks for pointing it out. I think I just found you by going to BirdFiles and typing in the bird pictures I needed!
