That is my number one reference book too! I acquired Reader's Digests Success With House Plants in the early days before my serious plant lust kicked in. In visiting my MN Mother, I would select a plant book and take to bed to read. One was so enjoyable and vaguely familiar... when I got home, I realized why. She also had a copy of Success with House Plants.

To this day, I refer to it frequently and usually first and yet I have tons of plant books. http://davesgarden.com/products/gbw/vcbm/podster/ It is an old standby that I recommend highly! The library book that made me go in search of a copy was for southern grown plants ~ Passalong Plants by Steve Bender and Felder Rushing. A fun book and good reference for southern plants.

Thanks for this article, reminds me I need to get off the computer and back to my plant library. Garden book theme week should have been in the dead of winter so I didn't want to be outdoors instead. LOL pod

I also agree that Success with House Plants is a great volume. I bought a copy in a second-hand book store a looong time ago. It made "the cut" through many years of cross-country moving when keeping every book was impractical. Good, solid information, that is timeless. I have moved on, beyond house plants,...but I will not give up my copy of this very good book.
