Darn it, Ben, you lost out again to the little guy!! You gotta learn to be faster with the camera.
It's a great article, and I enjoyed the fun. Now I am going to be so upset because I have no strawberries for breakfast. Thank you for the smile, and good luck with the next batch.
Ben: That is too funny! First the weather bests you, then the bird, next your son! Ask him if they were lucious. Amazing how stubborn gardeners can be when they are determined to grow a specific plant.
Ahh, the optimism of the gardener...always planning for "next year". Loved the article.
I agree that one does not fail, just needed to tweak the method a little in whatever the endeavour.
O your story ending made me laugh. I too believe that the most excitement comes from success is based on many, many experiments that prove how NOT to grow a particular plant. Thanks for sharing.
It WAS so funny! I got the lens put on the camera and the flash and marched to the kitchen only to see my son's mouth full of my masterpiece with red juice all over lips and mouth. I just looked at him and he said "Stwabewies" in that cute three year old voice. I really should have taken a picture of HIM now that I think of it. What a perfect ending photo. I will have to set some out again for him to eat.
Hi Sharon -- I hope you get some strawberries. They are the PERFECT breakfast snack. You are welcome for the smile and I may yet get another batch. We shall see.
Hi Angie -- I am SO encouraged due to my success. I think I have figured out all the tricks. Smiles. Thank you so kindly and hugs back to you!
Hi Christi -- ABSOLUTELY. I never say failed any more. And a funny thing happens, I eventually find success. Thank you so kindly.
Hi Marie -- You should have better luck than I and yes, Drew is a character. I got told off AGAIN for planting something without asking him first. He also knows where the strawberries are growing so I have to watch he doesn't sneak one while I wait for them to ripen.
Hi Dahlia -- A PLEASURE. Smiles. I feel blessed I have found a way that seems to work. I am such a determined soul.
Thank you all so kindly and blessings to everyone!
I should say that the other morning when surveying the garden, I found a near ripe berry, picked it, took the top off with my pocket knife and popped it in my mouth. It was GLORIOUS!
Ben, I started a new strawberry bed last year, too. A dear friend gave me a couple dozen baby ever-bearing plants, so they are very special to me. I've done everything by the book, pulled the blossoms for the first year, set up a watering system, gave them plenty of good soil, and a sunny location. I have high hopes and waiting patiently for my first harvest this spring!
