I have tons of Spanish Moss with a huge Live oak and a Cypress tree in my yard. I never remove it from my trees, but it falls in heavy clumps all over the yard. I hate putting it in the land fill.
Can I compost it? I know it does eventually break down. Is it safe to compost? I have a place where I pile it up to 4 feet deep. My ringnecks like to live in there.
In the winter it falls on my plants and all the plants that were heavily covered in Spanish Moss survived all the terrible freezes. I have pineapples growing in containers and Snake plants. The ones that were accidentally covered with SM did well. The others either died or lost large numbers of leaves.
I have enough Spanish Moss right now, I could cover my garden and all my pots 2-3". Thanks.
