This picture was taken in my neighborhood - the cactus is climbing on a palm tree trunk. I have a number of various epiphyllums and they all grow in clumps, none of them wants to climb. I have planted pieces near tree trunks, fences, but they don't grow at all, some are unchanged in size after 2 years. I have seen other arrangements in San Diego (cactus growing over a gate on a trellis, etc) so it clearly can grow big and climb tall. But how does one make it happen?
