Good morning! I was only 4 or 5 years old but my job was to pick the dandelions for Honey's dandelion wine. Back then you could walk around by yourself, go into other people's yards, and most people would smile and wave knowing exactly what you were doing. Honey taught me how to "pinch" the head off of dandelions and then I graduated to pansies! I do remember having to make sure there was no stalk left...also, the old crock jar was kept under the kitchen sink. I only wish I could remember more but the actual production was not my concern. I do remember one thing though..My Uncle Bubba told me they found a mouse skeleton at the bottom of the jug one year!! Merry Dandelions!!! (Honey was my maternal grandmother)
Guess the mouse got a little too tipsy. LOL My grandpa made wine and jelly out of things other people considered junk...including corn cobs where the corn had been removed from the cob. We never tasted the wine but his jelly was great.
I wonder how dandelion jelly or jam would taste and if it would still be yellow. Was the wine yellow?
