I moved to CO in '01 from upstate NY, where winter comes right along Christmas and doesn't stop until around mid March. It can snow for a month every day from 6" to 18" EVERY NIGHT! So, when I moved here, I was thinking, oh goodie, back in the desert again, yay. However, the weather here is something greatly to be desired, and in Parker, CO, we DEFINITELY need A/C! Sorry, but the Springs is much more tolerant of temperatures than a little further north in the Denver Metro, where it's over 100Degs downtown but only 80+ in the Springs! And, our soils here are much to be desired as well, either it's compacted clay or sand so sandy, I don't think lizards would like it!
All that said, I will admit that I'm growing some spectacular roses here, roses that are supposed to be good only to zone 7.. and it's way colder than that! I just watched it snow 2" here on the south side of town this morning, now the sun's out, and it's already melted. *sigh* Gotta love it: "If you don't like our weather, wait 10 minutes. It'll change!"
