We were there in late April two years ago and the tulips were fabulous, as were amaryllis in containers, both indoors and out. Lots of calla lilies also. But the daffodils were pretty much over except for a few late varieties and hyacinths were gone. So I don't think there is too early, just different plants to see. I would wonder about later in May -- guess it depends on the weather. It was in the 80's when we were there -- we thought it was great but the Dutch were fretting about the tulips not lasting thru the end of the show because of the unusual heat. I think they plant in layers so there is always something blooming. I understand it takes the whole month of October to get the bulbs in for the following year -- it must take months to plan the layouts and get the right color bulbs together. The planning is amazing!
October AND November are required for planting. You're right about planting in layers, too. I'm working on another article with some "inside information" about how it all comes together... I was fortunate enough to get a wonderful tour from one of their master gardeners!
You were just plain fortunate all around, Jill.
Gorgeous photos. My drooling has begun.
I am so glad you had a great trip, and even though I wish it had been me in your place, thank you for sharing your images. Can't wait for the next group of them.
