| For those of you that saw the table when I finished it over in the thread "A Smashing Good Time", I decided to post the 'How I Made it" here, so as to discontinue hijacking Wuvies thread (who, BTW, was my inspiration for the table.. Thank you Wuvie).
Ok, I started with a $6 pressboard table from Walmart and sprayed in flat back paint. then, with metallic craft paint, sponged one color at a time.. this it when i began with the blue paint. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Hi, I'm a newbie her at DG. however I'm not new to mosaic. I strongly recommend that you seal the bottom of the pressboard thoroughly. I made the mistake once of not doing that on an outdoor piece and had it totally disintegrate after a couple of unexpected rainstorms. By the way the table is quite lovely! |

| Hey there - love the effect of stained glass, mosaics and other cut glass arts. However, the price of tiles and the stained glass can be a bit prohibitive. Does anyone have any suggestions as to alternative "tiles" that I can use that won't be so expensive, but will still look great? Thank you! |

| I didnt use stained glas or tiles. I used a $6 table, a $6 piece of tempered glass and metallic paint. |

| Okay, question: Did you seal the painted top of the table before you glued the glass on, or after, or at all? I got marine-grade sealer to spray on the table, but I don't know if I should do it now or later. (the table is all painted now, and I want to make sure I do things in the right order.)
My bowling ball is almost covered with glass now- so exciting to see it coming together! :D |

| I did not seal the table after the paint. I went ahead and glued the glass pieces on with liquid nails. when dry, I grouted THEN sealed after 24 hours. (also went and bought another glass top to place over the mosaic just for a little protection, but thats not necessary.. just my OCD...LOL) |

| LOL, well, at first i tried laying it flat on the ground (on a sheet) to break it, but that didnt work.. I must have hit it 20 times and nothing. Then my son suggested elevating one side of the glass top and then hitting it, so I did that by placing a flat rock from the garden under one edge of the glass, tapped it with the hammer and it finally broke. I made sure the glass was wrapped int he sheet tho, in case any went flying. |

| I got my glass pre-broken. I called some local glass companies and found a guy willing to save me a big bucket of the broken tempered glass. He was a little leery at first, but when I told him what I wanted it for, he thought it was neat and agreed to help me out. :) |

| I have an old singer sewing machine base I bought for practically nothing. I already did one project and posted on here. I want to paint the base shiny black and I bought these plates today. How do I go about smashing them, do I need nippers to take off the edge first. I want to do these with white tile and black grout, what do you think? Any suggestions welcome. The top will be 2 feet by 3 feet to go under a patio window. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Oh I just love these tables.. Hmm do you think a windshild from a large truck would be enough glass to cover a table this size? Does this extra weight make the table top heavy?
OMG just read over the thread again.. And I see that Karen may be the blame for starting this??? lol ... Here we go again.. hee hee.. |
