I have the typical suburban lot with the typical size back yard. I wish I had more space. Any ideas for adapting this to a smaller scale?

Also, it is nice to talk about our gardens as a space to LIVE in - both us and our animals - and not too precious to touch (dig, lay on, etc!!).
