My father's family have been bulb growers for over 100 years. They always displayed in Keukenhof. In 1970, I had the privilege to visit my Dutch family and Keukenhof. It is more than the mind can take in on one visit! As a little girl living in Detroit, MI, my daddy would get wooden crates of a variety of bulbs from the family fields in Lisse, Holland. I was always allowed to help him sort and pack for the orders he would get to sell the bulbs directly to friends and coworkers. I was too young then to realize the importance of the bulbs to our heritage. Thankfully, I grew to be an avid gardener, like daddy, and have always enjoyed the flowers. Ironically, the tulip is always associated with Holland. However, the daffodil has always been my favorite!
