I was wondering if there is any interest in promoting a discussion of the old irises, not necessarily
"historics". Historics cover any cultivar more than 30 years old. They can be so similar to the new
modern irises that I do not consider them to be old. From what little reading I have done on the
internet sites, there are a lot of differences of opinions in describing very old irises. One site of
'experts' say the antique iris 'florentina' is a germanica.
In any event, this is a slow time for iris growers so kicking around a lot of personal experiences
will while away a lot of time until bloom time in mid-country.
Edited to remove assumptions which may not be entirely correct.
