I love the pictures, and that container at the bottom gives me all kinds of ideas. Any idea what the lacy foliage spilling over the edge is?

So thrilled that you got the opportunity to go visit these gardens, and even more thrilled that you're sharing the experience with us!

Sorry... they often didn't label flowers in containers, and I'm not sure they labeled a bit of "filler" anywhere!

I'm glad you're enjoying the articles... I'm having fun sharing!

Jill: I guess I first learned of the Keukenhof way back on Victory Garden when Marian Morash visited one year. I was blown away then and still am by its sheer beauty and poetry of the beds. It's beyond description and you've done a wonderful job sharing this with your articles on it. I hope you have more coming. Thanks for the link, too!

Keukenhof Gardens in on my list of the top 10 places I would love to visit! It's explosive beauty of different colors is like a painting that has come to life! I drool over the pictures from this garden and can only imagine the intensive labor involved in creating these floral masterpieces! It is truly a labor of love!

Jill, You lucky girl. I too became aware of Keukenhof through the old Victory Garden shows on PBS. Since my international traveling days are likely over, I really appreciate this view of your visit to K. Please grace these pages with pictures of your home display. I had no idea you plant 1000 bulbs per year.

Great article, and terrific pictures - you really gave us a sense of "being there". What an amazing place. Those numbers are truly hard to comprehend. And YOUR planting of 1,000 new bulbs is also an impressive feat!

So glad you had such lovely weather for your visit. Looking forward to more photos and articles to come!

Jim refers to bulbs in units of "kilobulbs" LOL. 2007, I got in 2.5 kilobulbs, but half were at my in-laws or in my parents' yard. Last fall, I probably managed only 1 kilobulb, and they weren't all in my yard... it was a light year LOL.

It sounds more impressive than it really is, as I generally have maybe 3/4 "little bulbs" like crocuses, muscari, species tulips, etc... and those don't have to be planted as deep as daffodils or tulips!

Now, Jill, that would make a great article in and of itself: Jim and the kilobulbs! LOL I'd love to see pictures of your yard in bloom in the spring. Those spring-blooming bulbs are my favorites!

In 1966 my family lived in Germany and one of the last trips before we came back to the states was a visit to Holland and the Keukenhof estates. Even as a child I was amazed at the colors and varieties of the tulips.
