Hello! I would like to know what this plant is? Its leaves are a bit similar to that of the coffee tree's, but they are very harsh and hairy and hard. I brought it from Greece 2 years ago; it had grown along a roadside.
Thank you very much!
Hi Cath133n, Its a loquat (Eriobotrya japonica). Tasty fruit.
Looks like Loquat to me also. There are eight listed in the Plant Files database: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=eribotrya&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search&searcher[genus]=Eriobotrya so I'm not sure which variety you have there.
This is the one that grows here in my area: http://www.floridata.com/ref/E/eriobot.cfm. My neighbor has these trees all along the fence in the backyard and they sprout up in my lawn on occasion. The fruits on her trees are a small variety but tasty. A lady I worked with many years ago used to make a jam with the fruit and she said the fare it took lots of the little fruits to make a batch of the jam.
It won't be hardy outdoors in Romania, unfortunately
