I hate to tell you but that's a very tough id - the closest thing I could tell is maybe bigleaf magnolia. There are that many magnolia species for your area.

Bingo! I think you've nailed its I.D. Many thanks.

I purchased the seedling from a Master Gardener's plant sale. I was told to plant them in protected area. :-)

They like woodland environment but need a good dose of sun to get them going and a bit of protection against the winds. Also maybe need even moisture due to their giant leaves losing lots of water vapors.

Boys, I looked on other similiar magnolias...it could also be white bark magnolia? I planted it under a canope of other big oaks. It's has been there over a year, and the leave just re-emerged for the growing season. So far it's looking pretty healthy.
