Fred is an indoor dinner plate. He began as a tuber in a bucket with another tuber and began to sprout up first, thus gaining the attention of our terminally ill uncle who lives with us.
He was very sad when the water in a jar tulips from Costco finally finished their cycle. He was able to watch the tlips do something everyday.
I had just planted Fred and his cohort in a bucket in the livingroom with a grow light. Fred is a fast grower. He grows 4-6" a week and Uncle Loren monitors his every inch marking it on Fred's support stake. Before Fred, Loren really was talking a lot about how to end things for himself. Now he comes out everyday to talk to Fred (He of course named him Fred) and he has a goal now, to live to see Fred bloom.
I was thinking it might be time soon to move Fred outside but now I think Fred is going to have to be a pampered indoor plant for as long as he possibly can.
Fred's cohort has now been named Ethel and both are the beneficiaries of daily conversation and hope.
