Has anyone had a problem with a stand-by generator within the warranty period? Ours is 6 months old on the 28th and during a power outage of about 3 hours, it quit working. When my husband went to see what was wrong there was smoke coming from the bottom and when he opened it there was oil in the bottom of the unit. On further investigation by a service tech from a dealer, other than the one we purchased it from, basically the motor blew out for some reason --obviously a defect in the manufacture and the company only wants to fix it and not replace it for us. Anyone with a similar situation?

I'm not sure what the problem is? That's how a warranty works--if something breaks during the warranty period, the company is responsible to fix it. If the problem with your unit is something that can't be fixed, then they would have to provide you a new unit but they're under no obligation to give you something brand new if they are able to fix the one you have. Think about car warranties...if something goes wrong with your car that's covered by the warranty they don't give you a new car, they fix the one you have. Warranties on appliances and things work exactly the same way.
