This might explain why some of my periwinkle in the parkway did not survive the winter. After being there for 20 years, I thought it was too established to die off. But we had record snowfall and ice and therefore lots of salt. I though the tree trimmers truck that took down my 50 yr. old maple last fall was the culprit. Thanks for the article.
