| This poor thing has been pushed around, shoved around
and now kicked outdoors. Well, since no one wants to take
a futon without a mattress and my vehicle was not built for
hauling large items to the recycling center, I think I'll keep it.
I was thinking about taking the frame off, standing it on it's
end and making it into a trellis for some Honeysuckle I've
been fighting all morning.
Or, I could use the ladder part of it, stand it on it's end and
use that for a trellis and then use the remainder as the frame
for a garden 'bed' since it will look like one without the ladder
section.
The nuts and bolts are old and rusted, so I'll get to use hubby's
nifty pneumatic wheel thing to cut them off. Whoo hoo!
Any other ideas I might consider?
Karen Marie
P.S. Lost my job Wednesday, so I may be popping in to visit more often
until I go back to work.

| My first thought was having the whole thing grown over with a vine and having a "green sofa" with some flower pots on it. But I suppose that depends how much room you have in your garden. I like the trellis idea. |

| Actually, it could not have happened at a better time. ;-)
All the taxes and insurance bills are out of the way,
the large winter utility bills are in the past, I had been
saving up money, and best of all, it's SPRING!
I'll get back into gardening and getting things done,
maybe even take temp jobs to keep fresh, but I have
to say, I'm almost glad about it.
Glad to be back, have missed all of you!

| I have a futon that looks almost identical to yours and I used it to make a fence along my copper trellis. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Flower that is great!
I thought the 'parts' would make a good drying rack for herbs and flowers.

| Wow I am happy I saw this thread! I have an old mattressless futon sitting in the backyard. It has been there for over a year. I usually just use it to sit gardening supplies on but it would be nice to do something with it that is decorative or practical. Right now it is just kind of embarassing although my mom does call my next door neighbor's house Disney World due to all of the random yard ornaments everywhere. |

| LOL!!! Your Mom came up with a good discription of my neighbors house too! I never knew what to call it, just that it "sticks out" in the neighborhood. Disney World is a nice way to say it. (My FIL called it "Upscale Sanford & Sons" when he gave directions to our then-new house.) My Disney World has a futon frame bolted to the back of the house in an arbor configuration around a bathroom window. The side rails are already covered in euonymus, but it looks like they were put on the wall kind of high up from the ground with the idea that the plants would cover the lack of "legs". These are painted white, as is the house and all of the Disney stuff in the yard. This is bolted flat to the wall.
If I had one, I would maybe use it as a frame for a concrete bench like I've seen on the concrete & hypertufa forum, tho' I love it as an arbor or trellis... |

| I like the wind chime idea but it might be a lot of work hanging it up somewhere.
I suggest adding a few pillows and using it for sitting! napping! or whatever you like to do in a horizontal position... like reading for example.
Have fun,

| Helen, sitting? Napping? What is that? Ha ha!
Thought I would update the thread. Hubby cut the legs off and
I dragged it around looking for a new home for the futon frame.
It is temporarily holding up a branch of the peach tree, which
is loaded with tons of peaches! After the harvest I can figure
out what to do with it.
