I'm excited about the new compact (2'x2') "Mango Tnago" potentilla as it has yellow to orange or red flowers. I especially like the compactness as some of my other potentillas are getting pretty large, and yes, ratty looking. Guess I better get out the shears.

They prune up nicely. Stick the pieces you cut off into some soil and they'll grow.

Thanks, I'll try that! Do you think a potentilla will grown near a concrete retaining wall?

The potentilla are great for a shrub. If you can find some, Mock Orange are wonderful too. Look around your area, Natives are guaranteed to flourish where you are...I mean, if it will grow wild in your area it sure will be lovely in your yard.
