One of my books said clematis will twine around things which are 3/4 inch diameter, or smaller. . .

Also, I am not sure what height would be correct for clematis.

If anyone has made obelisks or tuteurs for clematis, and can show photos and/or give info of what supplies they used, my husband and I would be much obliged!

Thanks!

I made a trellis out some Home Depot plastic lattice work. When it started to grow I helped weave it.>>>>>>>>>>John

I constructed a tuteur using eight pieces of half inch electrical conduit. I wasn't sure whether or not the clematis would twine around the conduit and added four pieces if rebar inside. I topped it off with a cast iron fleur de lis finial. I used ten foot conduit which resulted in an eight foot tall tuteur. It looks complicated but isn't that hard to make. It requires a conduit bender. A square one could be made using only four uprights.

This is another view of the tuteur. The Prince Philip clematis was a young plant in this photo. It is now very large. I have no problem with the design being copied.

Rocco,
It is very good-looking! But where were you able to find the finial?

Thanks for the compliment. I purchased this finial and several other styles at Gordman's for $1.50 each. This tuteur is mostly metal but the two octagonal rings did involve some woodworking.
