We live in Zone 5 Massachusetts. I have a light blue/grey house with cream trim.
Our house is for sale and we're about out of $$ - need to get someone to love it - and quick.
We were fine in the winter when snow covered but now everyone else's spring blooming bushes are outshining us on our block.
Our front looks soooo bare.
I have a showing ***tomorrow*** and i desperately need advice on what i could pick up at the gardening store that would have blooms on it and that would rebloom a few times (just for the next month - then the bank will own us I fear). I'll buy the largest ones I can - maybe 3 of this bush.
We have a japanese maple in the front and a couple pink astilbes that will come up eventually. But no other color to compete with.
Any other advice for instant beautification? Thank you!!!
Look, there is no guarantee that the flowers you choose the potential buyer will love. They may like a clean slate and so I wouldn't really stress over it.
What I think would brighten it up is a nice wreath on the door or something funky. One planted ceremic pot at the door filled with the cheapest annual you can find in hot colors - purples, reds, yellows. If you get a big urn - fill it with foam peanuts and then line with plastic at the top and plant only in the top 10 inches or so. Choose dynamic colors. The other important issue is take a hard look at the outside entranceway and make sure it's swept and scrubbed and windows sparkle. If you have grass, just make sure everything is neat and trimmed. Buyers will look at how well something is kept and not especially the fancy extras. I do understand what you are saying but I bet it won't be as important as compared to nice, clean, uncluttered --those are the issues that stop the purchase offers if not attended to. Again good luck, I know you are so happy that you have a showing.
I agree, I think your best bet is to make what you have as neat and clean as possible, and then add some splashes of color--pots of annuals are great and will bloom for a long time. Or if you've got a neglected bed in the front of the house you could plant some more annuals there as a border, they are cheap and will give you the pop you need.
