This is the first year that I have tried to grow eggplant in my guarden. I bought a plant instead of starting it from seed. There are these strange green things that kind of look like bugs but then again they kind of don't. Can any one tell me what they might be and what the best way to get rid of them is. I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you
Keldra
Those are aphid eggs. A good blast from the hose or a few strategically-placed ladybugs are the most environmentally-friendly solutions.
If you decide to use a spray, go for an organic oil-based spray (like Neem, which also has anti-fungal properties) - that will smother the eggs. However, be sure to spray in the early evening after the honeybees have gone home and the sun is going down. This will ensure you don't kill bees or burn your plants.
Finally, make sure your plant isn't stressed in any way - bugs usually attack a stressed plant. Is it crowded in a container or among other plants? Is the soil too wet? Try to create an open environment for the plant to grow comfortably.
