not really if related to building and remodeling, but any suggestions for what color to paint our new front door? here's a pic with the old one...shutters are red/burgandy and house is white. the existing door is blue.
You have lots of options--only things I'd stay away from would be red/orange/yellow since I think those will clash with the shutters, and a green door with the reddish burgundy shutters might be too Christmas-y. You could paint it to match the shutters, or you could do a contrasting color. The blue you have on the old door is fine, or you could go with a dark brown. Or if you paint the trim around the door to match the shutters, then you could go with a door painted to match the main house color, or a lighter color like tan. So it's really a question of what you like.
This is wayyyyyyyyyy late, but I just saw this post.
Ditto... I'd say go with the color of the shutters...but maybe a shade or two darker just for some warmth and color POP.
Funny I should see this thread.. I just posted somewhere else talking about painting my front door. Feng Shui has some suggested colors based on the direction your front door faces, but your shutter color is going to call the shots whether you want to blend, contrast or match them.
You can get vinyl shutters reasonably priced at places like Home Depot. If you want to go that far...change our your shutters and have some fun giving your place a mini face lift.
If I had to work with your shutter color I'd put in wooden window boxes painted to match the front door you have. Then...load them up with fun colors...pulling in reds, blue...and maybe some lime green potato vines etc.
Another area in your photo I see SCREAMING to play with is that blank wall on the left side of the photo (garage?). You could put a nice trellis in the center of that wall... painted that shutter red (to blend with the shutter red) or painted blue like the door. Then put some big ol' climbing rose up in a nice tone of reddish to go with the shutters.. I do really like Americana colors and that looks like someone had that in mind with that color scheme. No joke... I might even consider painting that long garage wall in a flag scheme (with antique muted Americana red/cream/blue) JUST FOR FUNZIES...LOL Heck..it's only paint...you can always paint over it if you hate it.
We put black shutters on a few years ago. They are Home Depot shutters, and we're happy with them. They were not pricey at all.
