So far, so good, although I do understand the down side.
Regarding larger, longer-living trees like oak, ash, elm, etc., we had an evergreen ash in our backyard but it got so huge, its root system started invading our home plumbing and buckling the nearby city sidewalk -- which we were assessed for fixing. Large trees are great but whomever planted that ash, put it squarely in the wrong location; too close to a house and sidewalk (just on the other side of a fence). We had it removed in Jan. '09 (we cried, it WAS sad)) and planted an 8-foot Bradford pear in its place. Seems like the ideal location and we're looking for other, smaller trees to fill void here and there. But our days of the big monster trees are over.
