I put a few dahlias in trays this year with a layer of potting soil to wake them up. I have been out of town and then busy working two jobs and planting other things and I just realized that a couple of my newer dahlias tubers that I put in trays have gotten very tall and spindly. I had forgotten to move them around in my garage/greenhouse so they would be closer to light I guess. I planted one outside and had to tie it to its stake just to keep it off of the ground.I have noticed that the stem on this one has started to go from pale green to a deep red and looks like it is getting some mass to it.
Has anyone else ever had this happen and will they be a problem all year in keeping them standing. "OH Yeah "just so you know it happens to be a dinner plate Dahlia and the only starts I have of this new one. I did start one for a neighbor that was started right in a big pot, so I can probably get good tubers from his if mine fizzle out. I have never had this problem and was wondering if these plants are going to make it.
