Do black widows live in your agaves? I've heard they often do in the wild, and that they discourage snout weevils from attacking.

They show up randomly in most of my larger plants... but usually in between them or between a plant and a rock... not had too many actually live within the leaves of a plant (that I have seen)... but then my garden has a lot more hiding places than perhaps a desert with Agaves in it... they have to use what there is, I guess.
