| I can't believe that no one has mentioned COFFEE GROUNDS. I have used then for years to keep snails out of my garden. I hate when then leave a row of holes in my canna leaves, or, for that matter, when they eat ANY of my plants.
Just keep your coffee grounds and spread them on the ground once a month near plants that snails will eat. And don't forget your outside potted plants. |

| Thanks. I've tried broken egg shells... didn't work. I'll have to visit Starbucks many times to get enough coffee grounds (they give them away), but I'll sure try it! |

| Try a mix of water and domestic ammonia in your handy-dandy sprayer. I haven't figured out the perfect mix yet, but ammonia doesn't harm foliage, and it kills snails.. and the young. Try 50/50 and observe. |

| Yes eggshells don't really work, but they are a cheap mild deterent. We enjoy eating 'Escargots' and the best way to catch them is after a downpour. My friend in Canada uses the Amonia mixture to spray her multitude of Hostas. You spray the plants and not the snails. |

| Hostas are not usually grown in Malta. For the first time this year I have seen corms (or is it bulbs) for sale here. The 2 I purchased in Feabruary are doing fine. Can you give me some tips about growing them. Up to now the highest tempreture has slowly risen to 24 degress celcius. In summer it will eventually go up to between 34 and 40 degrees. Should I leave the pots in the sun or should I find them a shady spot. Would the dappled shade under a tree be best for them.

| There is a hosta forum on here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/hostas/all/
I'm not much of a hosta grower, but most of them need some shade. I'd choose dappled shade and watch them... they may need more shade if it gets really hot. |

| I have heard about coffee grounds...and forgot...do they really truly work or will I be wasting more time looking insane to my neighbors?

| I don't know... all my coffee grounds go on my acid-loving plants and get mixed-in... |

| Glad to tell you that my two mini hostas have survived the summer, even the day the tempreture was 42 celcius and I was away from the Island. Now some of the leaves are drying out. This is a learning curve for me. |

| I read on a discussion group about putting slices of cucumber on aluminum pie plates. The cucumber reacts (theoretically) with the aluminum to ward off slugs. I tried 4 plates. The cucumber attracted slugs and got eaten, even in a greenhouse! I chucked both cucumber and slugs onto a compost pile. I didn't relish the thought of aluminum pie plates all over the garden. The crows might be amused... at least until there was a gale of wind! |

| Thrilled to see Malteser in the line up. Did not realise that we had someone from my favorite islands on Davesgarden. The picture brought back memories...but do you live in an appartment building like in the picture or do you have a garden area? |

| Do the slug bait powders and pellets also harm lizards? I use the pellets and I handpick from the plants when I have the time (especially the agapanthas which seem to be great sites for colonies). I love the lizards and don't want to harm them. |
