Hello Larry Rettig
Think yourself very lucky !! We have the Red Lilly Beetle here in the UK and these are impossible to grow now here in Wales, as are all of the other "real" Lillies we use to enjoy so much. If you don't have this red beast in the USA then make the best of it before it arrives!
Best Wishes

Thanks so much, Peter. To be forewarned is to be forearmed! After reading your comments, I found a website that would seem to be very helpful (http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/lists/neweng/2002040522017914.h...). If you've tried any of the suggestions made there, I'd appreciate knowing the outcome. Best--Larry☼

P.S. So far the beetles are found only along the East Coast of the U.S., which is surprising, since they've been in that region since 1945. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the don't find their way across the Mississippi River!

I have been told that the lily leaf beetle will lay eggs on fritalaries so I avoid them. Beautiful plant though.

I see those in catalogues and they look so nice, but they aren't recommended for zone 10, so I haven't risked spending the money.

Lily beetles appeared here in mid 1990s.

These flowers are so unique and beautiful, but I wonder if they would grow here in S.Texas coastal area because of heat & humidity?... oops, and the Wind would probably topple them! But I sure do like them; nice pics. !!
