Hi Molamola, Poha Berry, Physalis peruviana, is a Husk Tomato that is fairly small but sweet when ripe. It is in the Tomato or Nightshade Family, Solanaceae.
In Hawai'i, it was introduced in the early 1800's and is wild in many areas from near sea-level to 6,000 ft., but you'll have a hard time beating the birds to the fruit!
Poha Berry is raised commercially. You can eat the fruit raw or cooked. It makes great salsa!
Good, Dave...and so true. I nearly slaughted Boo yesterday when full of food (he is ALWAYS full of food) he killed a Melodeous Barking Thrush. OH...there was no reason except that it's there!!! Darn!
