Jess I want some viburnums too! There are SOOOO many out there, when I start to look at them I get confused. When I do finally get one (or 2 or 3) I guess I'll start with size and go from there. I need some of the big ones along the back for privacy...as part of a mixed shrub border.
I would have to say that my all time favorite is Viburnum carlesii otherwise known as Korean Spice Viburnum. It has a wonderful fragrant flower in early summer and then sets red berries for the birds. If the birds weren't hungry, the berries would turn black. Great fall foilage color as well. I also really like Viburnum x burkwoodii or Mohawk Viburnum. It seems to be much faster growing than Korean Spice, it has tripled in size in 2 years. It also has a very fragrant flower in spring. It is actually a cross of carlesii. Not sure what the other parent is, but I know it's a wonderful, fragrant, pest and disease resistant variety.

If you go with the Brandywine, plant a Winterthur (also a viburnum nudum) nearby. The cross pollination will significantly increase the berry production.
