| Hi, Im a newbie, and this is my first flower gardenever...I would like to get some help with how to care for what I have already planted...Im clueless...Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place...I just got a membership and there are so my areas to explore I didnt know where to go to post...anyways...I went to walmart yesterday and they had a 2 cent sale on miniture roses and gerbera daisy...so of course I had to get them and plant them now I dont know what to do with them...I aslo have hostas and spider plant and hypoesties and last but not least there are celsoia I just love them...any help on how to care for this flowers would be appriecated...I think Im already hooked here at daves and look forward to meeting some new folks...

| You will be ok.Remove spent blooms.Water and sunshine.Hostas like shade.They weill do ok in sun,but will require more water.Keep it simple with fertilizer.There is alot of it on the market.My favorite is Eposoma Plant Tone.Its a slow release organic fertilizer and works on any plant.Its available in 5 lb bags up to 50 lb bags.Guess what size I buy?Have fun and welcome.Edge |

| Welcome to Dave's Garden. It's going to be a hot spot where you planted your flowers given they will get heat reflected from the wall. They will probably require more watering in the summer heat. Keep you eye on them so they don't get fried. Good luck, and again, welcome. |

| Do you get some shade there? If its full sun, and by the brick they might not do so good. |

| Flowerprincess..It doesnt get much shade there, So I make sure I get plenty of water for them..they all seem to be doing well for right now with the exception of my daisy..my daisies have me confused...they die during the day and come to life at night...really they get all droppy and limp during the day and there are in full bloom in the night...any ideas or suggestions...

| Jeani: You may want to check the temps around the dasies, here in east TN we are hitting the 80s and have in past weeks as well. If that area next to the brick gets little shade and there is not good air circulation you may well have very high temps there indeed. If you have a meat thermometer you can use it to get a temp. Check it at the hottest part of the day that way you know what poor dasies are suffering. This may be due to young plants not well established and you might want to pull the mulch back off them just a little. Also if the temps are really high you can use a mister type irrigation hose to cool the tender new daisies off. OK heavily experienced green thumbs any other suggestions to aclimate the new young plants to a hot spot?? Or maybe I am way off base? Any way Jeani you're in the right spot, ecrane or someboby else will be here shortly to set us straight. |

| Hello and welcome. This is my 2nd year having a flower garden and I am enjoying it so much. I don't know a lot but I have learned many things from DG.
I have some Gerber daisy planted and they have all come back but one so I replaced it with one from walmart.

| I read in a different post some where on DG that you can actually use an umbrella to shade newly planted items during the hottest part of the day. Reducing the amount of shade every three or four days by a half hour toward the start and end time of the hottest part of the day. This will allow the plants to aclimate to there new area slowly with out the shock being so dramatic. The post also said you could use anything handy to make the artificial temporary shade. Card board box flaps, old sheeet to make a tent etc. just something to gradualy harden up the plant to it's new enviornment. BTW how is the new garden fairing other than this problem? |

| Hi, gcorrier, Thank you for the suggestions...My little flower garden has come back to life...I didn't do anything different except pull a couple dead flowers off...they are now staying up during the day and night...maybe as you said; they just needed to get use to there new home...hopefully they will live threw my vacation...I'm leaving for Texas to go see my gran baby on the 15 and will not return until the 1st of July and I will be having someone else to take care of them for me while I'm gone and they don't know the first thing about flower gardens either so we will see...Hopefully mother nature will be on are side and let them live for the rest of the season :) :) Thanks again.
