Hello Folks,
A beginner question [ -;
If I take cuttings off my Penta..do I just put some root tone on the stem and leave it in moist soil or can I stick the cutting in a glass of water like impatients..I have a real good Penta that is a yearly and is very hardy.
Thanks,
Chuck

Use rooting hormone and soil, and remove all but the top two leaves, and any flower buds.

I agree...the rooting HORMONE is much better than just Rootone. The hormone encourages root growth, where the Rootone is basically just an anti-fungal. I think? And I was just reading yesterday about rooting hormone GEL...it is supposed to work better yet because the gel sticks to the cuttings better than the powder. I found one place online so far that sells it (Logee's) but it was a little pricey...$12.95 for 2 oz. My pocketbook needs to find it cheaper than that before I try it! Becky

No, Rootone does contain a rooting hormone as well as the fungicide, but the flaw with Rootone is that water washes it away from the cutting, and you HAVE to water cuttings! A gel sounds much more workable, but many cuttings don't need either; they root quite well using Mother Nature's ability they have to produce roots.

I find the powder works better for hardwood cuttings, and the gel for most all else.
