Can you post a picture? There are any number of things it could be--most likely some sort of ornamental grass, but depending on how thin you mean when you say "thin", it could be a green cordyline or phormium. Or something else entirely--impossible to say without a picture.

I don't have a picture.
I've tried looking through images on google and PlantFiles pictures here to find something similar, but no luck so far.

I'll look up phormium and green cordyline.
