Are you a putterer or a "get 'er done" kinda person?
I am a putterer. I'll vacuum then sit down with a coffee and check the 'puter. Do the dishes, then a break. Pick up odds and ends, then a break. Water the plants, then a break...well...you get the idea
DH, when he decides to, will zip through the house like a maniac...doing two or three things at a time...drives me insane!! He likes to get it all done quick then have the whole rest of the day to relax...I like to spread it out so I don't have the whole rest of the day sitting around being bored.
I think I'm both kinds of people - somedays I go like a house a fire - especially if I have something else I want to do later. There is always a project waiting for my attention. That's the problem - I have too many projects and too much stuff. I love to take art classes at the local junior college - not that I'm talented - they are just willing to let anybody take classes if they have money for tuition.
What do you do for entertainment when your work is done? We don't even have time for TV at our house. DH still works full time, traveling lots, but we work outside in the yard and do lots of projects to try to improve our little home. We spend lots of summer evenings just sitting outside on the patio watching the birds and checking the flowers for growth.

I'm both kinds too. It depends on what the schedule for the week is. If I have something to do that will take a day out of my puttering, I will get all of the yard and housework done early by zipping through like a maniac. Otherwise, I prefer puttering.
Interesting question and I would have to answer as gava and juney did...I am both.
More times than not, I do the puttering type of clean up. So far today, all I have done is sit here at the desk and catch up on correspondence. I am like gava, and always have a list going of things to be done. It feels nice to mark things off, but somethings end up on the list for several days in a row before they are done.
I was commenting on another thread earlier that this year has been flying by and I have somehow become overly busy. I can't really put my finger on one particular thing that might be the cause of it, but I often feel as though I am behind on a lot of things.
No biggie yet. I just hope that I will soon figure things out and begin to feel better about some of left undone things I have going on.
Hi Jen - I just realized that I saw you at Holly's, but am not sure if we got to speak or not. Please know that I didn't ignore you purposely but we arrived so late and I was involved with my niece and her two little ones, and didn't get a lot of socializing done that day.
I would have guessed you to be the sort that tackled something and went to it full force. Just looking at you I can tell that you are a go getter. Don't ask me how I know, I just know. I suppose that it has to do with keeping your person so well put together or something. Definitely not a sloppy bone in your body.
I would fit in to both categories, depending upon mainly how well I am feeling physically. On days that I am dealing with feeling bad, I can be as idle as any bum you might see. If I am feeling okay, I have been known to be able to work like a busy bee too. I probably work best under pressure. If I have a good period of time to tend to a chore, I am good at putting it off. The closer to the deadline, the faster I work. A lot of us are probably like that.
Yes, Ruby I saw you from across Ric and Holly's yard and never got a chance to chat. There were a lot of people there to gab with.
Thanks for the compliments!
I am even better under pressure but don't like the stress of having to do it that way.
I think you have a little ADD. I have it also and it is just not natural to get everything all done at one time. I have about a dozen projects started and not completed. At least you are getting everything done on your own time. All people are different. Do things as it suites you!
I am a maniacle putterer. I multitask and am very easily distracted. I begin 10 tasks and finish none, as one task leads to many others.
The good thing is I am very flexible.
The bad thing is I create a path of chaos, like a mini tornado.
I think it would help me greatly to learn how to limit myself. I seem unable to say no to myself, as in "Don't start something you know you can't finish"
Reading this forum is helping me sort thru my mess of clutter and distractions.
I found a great way of just concentrating on one room at a time, with a 6 yr old and a 3 yr old I always have toys EVERYWHERE, those Legos...ugh!!! anyway...
I have 2 containers(usually use laundry pop up baskets) I start in 1 room, divide up kids toys/stuff into designated bin, then clean top to bottom(excluding mopping or vacuuming, all rooms get done together) Then I move onto the next room. I usually start in the kitchen/dining area (seems the worst clutter to me, I hate the island) So after doing kitchen/dining, living room and the family room the containers are ready to go to the kids rooms for the stuff to be put away. I found this works the best for me, helps me stay on track at completing a room at a time.
I prefer to ignore the omnipresent television (hate, hate, hate it) and like said above, if the computer is on, I work a bit and stop by for a 'break' and mosey on. Things don't get done very quickly. But then at this age, I realize it'll be there waiting on me when I get ready.
I could have written Huckleberry's post (Sept. 3)!! Exactly me!!! A friend gave me a book by Joyce Meyer, "100 Ways To Simplify Your Life", the first thing I read was, don't start anything new unless you know you can finish it! I have so many started projects, both inside and out, I don't know where to finish!!
I enjoy starting something new. I may be picking grapes, perfectly content, and all of a sudden I think it would be fun to climb down off the ladder and check if the mail has been delivered. Usually something else pops up on the way to get the mail. I am conscious of this, and conscious of the trail of half-baked tasks I have caused. My spouse has nick-named me ''miles of piles". I am not bad enough to call in the authorities. I am bad enough to feel sorry for anyone who would have to clean up after me. Mostly, I am getting tired of my own mess and my inability to fix it instantly. But I am taking those baby steps. And the support of other clutterbugs is wonderful. We can clean up our messes and still be the creative people we truly are. I hope. ; - )
You are right, huckleberry, it is baby steps! That's how we are getting out of debt and how we learn to do new things. We still make mistakes, but we have to get up, keep trying, and have little bitty successes. And we should celebrate each baby step. I think that we clutterish folks are very hard on ourselves. So cut yourself some slack and enjoy any progress.
Tonight I realize that we might not have a choice about everything that happens to us but we have a choice about how we percieve the things that happen to us. We get to enjoy our own silliness or we get to mourn all our mistakes.
