Bullwinkle and the gnomes are at or near the end of their cross-continent trip. shall they make a return visit?

If so, who is interested? Unless Glenda wants to coordinate it, I'm willing to take that on. But we need to start making a list soon.

Also, it took quite a long time for them to get east. Should there be some restrictions on how long they stay at each address? Or should we just go with the flow?

So - Glenda are you OK with me organizing the return trip? Or would you like to do it?

Assuming we go ahead with a return trip, are you interested in hosting the lads? Could you please indicate yes or no here? Do NOT add your mailing address here. We will get those details by D-mail. At this stage we simply need to know if you want them to visit.

I've looked over the previous adventures and added links from on to another where there weren't any. I know the first couple of links telling about the lads' adventures on Vancouver Island and in Vancouver were, regrettably, taken down. Is this one - Edmonton the first one still up? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/890060/ Or did I miss one?

There have been a fair number of new Canadians on DG since last June when we were planning all this. I'll try to invite them to take a look and participate if they wish.

As to how long to host them, most of us did about a 5 day turn around on the trip east. Some people kept them a bit longer. We have, so far, 21 people on the list and unless people who live close together hand-deliver the lads to the next person, there will be a few days in the mail each time they are sent on.

So, I would suggest that the visits be kept fairly short - maybe 3-4 days so that they can visit as many as possible on the list before the snow flies.

Spklatt .. the 'time factor' varies .. some folks have had them in excess of a week because they wanted to take pics of them at an 'event' they were attending.
By and large I tend to think that 3 to 5 days is the norm .. that said .. it could be as little as one day if you were to keep them and photograph them in your garden as opposed to carting the little rascals around your town/city ^_^

Christine - show him some of the earlier threads and maybe he'll get it. Maybe not. People do sometimes look at you funny when you cart them around everywhere with you, posing them and taking pics.

My favourite memories are the pumpkin dealer in the ByWard market here in Ottawa who said gnomes were good luck and better luck the farther they travelled, the Guard at Rideau Hall who held them for us (RCMP on Parliament Hill weren't so amused), and posing them in the lobby of the Chateau Laurier. Of course, there's always Bullwinkle who tries to get into trouble everywhere he goes - like climbing the fence to the Prime Minister's residence.

Address sent today. We can't let the boys miss out on Nova Scotia!
Its been a cool spring so the garden is a bit behind and as its only our second year at this address much work remains to be done. I,m sure the boys will enjoy Granville Beach and Annapolis Royal and will agree with us that its the best place in Canada. Some of you will argue otherwise but we will let the boys decide for themselves.

Here's a new list. I only need two addresses now. I'll send the first one's off to Todd so he can get the lads on their way. If we need to tinker with the order a bit later, we can do that. I've bypassed the Ottawa area because gillibean needs to have the lads before the end of June. Most of the rest of you didn't indicate any times that it would not be convenient to have the lads. so we'll go to gillibean and then catch those close to Toronto before backing up closer to Ottawa.

Todd will get them on their way really soon. Please keep them a maximum of 5 days before sending them on.

I'm still missing two addresses, but there will be a little time before I need them. If for any reason you decide that you cannot host the lads, please let me know and I will contact the current host to cross your name off the list.

In areas where there are several people close together, I think having the lads would make an excellent excuse for getting together in a mini RU.

I did plant my tomatoes on Sunday but had to cover them on Monday night when I saw the temperature dropping like a stone and with a dew point below 0 deg C frost was likely. The temperature at my weather station fell to 1.6C and there was a light frost on the lawn at 06:00 Tuesday morning. It's about 3 weeks past are normal last frost date. What you do, is you post a new thread (in the Discussions page - go to Canadian Gardening, and then choose "Post a New Thread" at the top of the page (under Communities).

Name it whatever you like, that's related to the Boy's trip with you (such as Mississauga Trip with the Boys - just don't use my lame excuse for a title LOL).

Once you've created it, make your 1st post ("we came here, from there...yada yada.."), copy the address of the Thread, then return here, and create a post, pasting the address in.

Tallulah_B gave good instructions. if it's easier for you to start the thread and then go back to edit in the address of where we've been, that's OK too. Or you can make it the second post in the thread. And don't forget to go back to the last thread and put a link as to where we've gone. (I'll do it if you forget; so don't worry.)

Let's see, you could name it something like Moosissauga Saga or something. I'm sure if you let your creative juices flow a bit you'll come up with something much better.

I suspect the intention was to get them mailed on the 9th or else they sat around a post office for awhile before being sent off.

That would seem reasonable. And generally, the mailing should take 2-3 days (that's WORKING days, of course). scicciarella, myself, and spklatt and possibly drivenbonkers can likely exchange them in person.

I think we are best to leave the discussion of what to do with them on THIS thread because the other thread was supposed to be about their visit to Mississauga. This is the one where we have the list of people to whom they are supposed to go.

From several posts above, the following Ontario people are still on the list except that some of them have withdrawn -

cybercrone - Toronto, ON - withdrawn unless they surface almost immediately.
ceedub - Whitby, Ontario

scicciarella - Metcalfe, ON
ViolaAnn - Ottawa, ON
spklatt - Ottawa, ON - withdrawn although we'll try to get together with her if they reach Ottawa.
drivenbonkers - Perth, ON
Bettypauze - Victoria Harbour, ON
weslemkoon - Gilmour ON

and WEST of Ontario -
nevrest - Broadview, SK
annabell52 - Edmonton AB
Tallulah_B - Calgary, AB
fancyvan - Calgary, AB

daryl - Vernon B.C.
Don - withdrawn
hortensia - Langley, BC STILL NEED ADDRESS
Teresa_in_BC - Sooke, BC
MG99 - Victoria BC
MarilynneS - Murillo, ON (near Thunder Bay)

So unless Cybercrone wants to acquire a gnome and start them off, we should start with ceedub.

A couple of you sent me your telephone numbers. Could the rest please send them as well so we can contact you if there is a problem?

I have many frogs (stuffed, wooden, brass, etc.), and I'm sure that at least one or two could be coerced into a journey. Let me look around the house; I have a corner in my basement of stuff for the garage sale that I never seem to find time to have. I've long forgotten what's in it. All else fails, one of my cats ... nah, that won't work, they'd need brushing every day and would get really annoyed being in a box...lol.

Maybe spklatt would like to get together with YOU here in Ottawa and then you could send them off next week and I've D-mailed cybercrone to see if she still has time to host the lads before she gets busy in October.

That leaves the Ontario contingent as:
cybercrone - Toronto, ON - withdrawn unless they surface almost immediately.
ceedub - Whitby, Ontario
drivenbonkers - Perth, ON
Bettypauze - Victoria Harbour, ON
weslemkoon - Gilmour ON

If cybercrone has withdrawn, perhaps they should go to drivenbonkers next and then head west. I was going to use them as a good excuse to get to Perth, but I think they will have to go ahead of my return.
