All these years, I've been rolling up strips of paper and wrapping
them around the new plant stems. The cardboard cores should be
much less bothersome to the plants (and to me!). Thanks!
Also, sometimes I just place a little stick alongside the new stem.
Folks say that doesn't work, but it seems to work for me.

Found my first cutworm (grey & curled) last week, just the one. They are also yellowish-green as well as the grey. Does the curling tip you off as to who they are? I always assume curled up means cutworm. They can do mature iris stalks although I have found only a few of those down over the years.
Anything besides alyssum that will attract the beneficial wasps?
This could be the problem I'm having with my raised bed veggie garden. Everything EXcept asparagus and chamomile has been eaten: broccoli, bok choy, parsley, lettuce...stripped overnight.
Couldn't find any evidence of the culprit, and using DE, Sluggo, and garlic barrier has not worked so far. Will search for cutworms now and try the tubes.
