I planted my flowers in a couple of 2 gallon buckets a few weeks ago. But as a newbie I did not realize that the soil would settle down after watering. So now I have my asters blooming but you cannot see them as they are deep inside the bucket. The buckets also have Hellenium , basil , cosmos, callendula and a pepper plant.
Will it be safe to replant them into another container now or will the plants stop flowering?
As long as you are as gentle as possible with the roots they should be OK--I suspect since you just planted them that you should be able to pop them out, add more potting mix, and pop them back in without disturbing the roots too much.
Nothing to do with your original question, but do you have drainage holes in your buckets? If not you might want to drill a few to help with drainage, otherwise it is very easy to overwater your plants.
The rocks actually don't help drainage so you can get rid of those when you repot. There's a great thread in the container gardening forum that explains about water movement in containers and why things like "drainage layers" really create the opposite effect of what you would think...since you're not a subscriber you'll only be able to read the first post, but there's still a lot of info there http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/719569/
