Hi, is anyone familiar w/this plant? I purchased one online and I'm hoping what I'm seeing are NOT scales. Some of the leaves have slightly raised surfaces indicating a brownish dot or defect on the leaf. Some of the leaves are smooth, others have this 'bumpy' texture. Is this normal for this small shrub?

I did what any of us could do, and that's look the plant up on a search engine, and it did say it's susceptible to scale. What you are describing sounds like scale insects on what is supposed to be a smooth-textured plant.
