I live in central Louisiana. Could you please clarify for me whether or not I need to dig up the bulbs in the fall or will it be alright to leave them planted.

What zone are you? I suspect you can leaves bulbs in the ground over the winter. Check with your local extension or ask the question in one of the southern states forums.
Also, research the bulb about which you are asking: the plant details should say what the cold hardiness will be.
