I do a lot of cooking and I'm constantly replenishing my spices. I was shopping for a couple of specialty items at an upscale market today - similar to Whole Foods, Central Market or Sun Harvest, for example. They have loose herbs and spices - I've never paid much attention before today.
I needed Basil, Dried Minced Garlic, Saigon High-Oil Cinnamon and Chervil. I normally pay between $4.95 and $7.95 for these particular items. I measured out the same net weight quantities needed to refill the empty bottles I had at home...the cost was 18 cents, 66 cents, $1.06 and 42 cents, respectively. Wow.
