The soffit at the far end of the long wall. Ugh! I checked, and it goes clear up to the attic, so it was original (there's no finished wall or ceiling inside it - darn!).
I really wanted to take it out, but that will mean expense. I SO wish we knew how to do this stuff ourselves so we didn't have to rely on paid labor to do it.
